YARIS AP4 DEBUTS IN JAPAN<br />
Toyota’s first venture into the local AP4 category has<br />
come via the Japanese-based Cusco team, with a Vitz<br />
AP4 contesting the recent Hokkaido Rally in Japan.<br />
Known as a Yaris outside Japan, Yuya Sumiyama drove the<br />
prototype four-wheel-drive Cusco Toyota Vitz, currently under<br />
AP4 development.<br />
“This car is a development car and we plan to build an AP4<br />
car in the future because there is a need in Japan for a car like<br />
this,” Cusco president Tsutomo Nagase said.<br />
While the car retired from the event on both days, it showed<br />
some promising signs.<br />
There are believed to be three Toyota AP4 cars under<br />
construction in New Zealand for 2017, while Neal Bates<br />
Motorsport are also assessing the possibility of an AP4 Yaris<br />
for next year’s Australian championship.<br />
