Day 1. Australia – Osaka<br />

Day 2. Osaka arrival<br />

Your tour guide will be waiting to<br />

transfer you to the airport hotel.<br />

Day 3. Osaka – Nara – Osaka<br />

Visit Todaiji Temple and the<br />

world’s largest bronze statue of<br />

the Buddha Vairocana, then<br />

wander through Nara Park with<br />

wild sika deer. Return to Osaka<br />

and visit Osaka Castle, before<br />

being dropped off at Dōtonbori<br />

to sample Osaka’s vibrant street<br />

food culture.<br />

Day 4. Osaka – Kyoto<br />

Visit Nijo Castle, the Kyoto<br />

residence of the Tokugawa<br />

Shogunate, and Kinkakuji, the<br />

heritage-listed Golden Pavilion,<br />

a UNESCO World Heritage Site,<br />

two floors of which are covered<br />

entirely in thin layers of pure<br />

gold. Cap off your day at<br />

Kiyomizu-dera Temple and drink<br />

to your fortune from the streams<br />

of the Otowa Waterfall.<br />

Day 5. Kyoto – Mount Fuji<br />

See Togetsu Bridge in the city’s<br />

Arashiyama district, and explore<br />

the Sagano Bamboo Forest with<br />

its towering green stalks that sway<br />

gently in the wind. After lunch,<br />

travel to Mount Fuji by bullet train<br />

at 320 kilometres per hour ($180).<br />

Day 6. Mount Fuji – Hakone<br />

– Atami<br />

Known as the Springs of Mount<br />

Fuji, the eight ponds of Oshino<br />

Hakkai are fed by melting snow<br />

filtering down through porous<br />

lava. Later, visit Gotemba Peace<br />

Park for a breathtaking view of<br />

Mount Fuji, then take a cruise on<br />

Lake Ashi. Next it’s on to<br />

Owakudani Valley, an active<br />

volcanic zone with hot springs,<br />

and a visit to the Hakone Shrine,<br />

hidden in forest.<br />

Day 7. Atami – Tokyo<br />

Sample one of Japan’s most<br />

popular beers at the Asahi Beer<br />

Factory, before visiting Odawara<br />

Castle. You’ll also travel to<br />

Kamakura to see Daibutsu,<br />

Japan’s second-tallest bronze<br />

Buddha statue.<br />

Day 8. Tokyo<br />

Spend today at your leisure. Visit<br />

Tokyo Disneyland or DisneySea<br />

(admission $120), join a Nikko<br />

day tour ($250), or take up one of<br />

our optional programs (see right,<br />

these programs are not guided and<br />

transportation is self-arranged).<br />

Day 9. Tokyo<br />

This morning, visit Meiji Shrine,<br />

dedicated to the deified spirits of<br />

Emperor Meiji and his consort,<br />
