Our pets age at a much faster rate than we humans. A seven- to eight-year-old dog is equivalent to a 50-year-old human and a cat would be comparable to a 40-year-old human. Paying attention to older pets will help your vet diagnose whether a condition is serious and help prevent an issue from getting progressively worse. We call this “early detection,” and it involves taking your pet for a physical at least twice a year and reporting any subtle signs or changes.
