MUSIC INSTRUMENTAL - BRASS Please refer to Music Rules on pages 49-51 Class Fee Time limit W9 £5.00 BRASS WORKSHOP FOR BEGINNERS (any age) per player For players of any age from beginners to Grade 2 standard The performers will be involved as a group, learning a couple of simple pieces, with a mini “performance” at the end. Parents and teachers will be welcome to stay and give support. The workshop will be scheduled to take place after school on Monday 20 March for approximately one hour NB: A minimum of 10 entries is required for this workshop to take place W10 £7.00 BRASS SOLO – Elementary 3 mins One or two pieces of Grade 2 and under standard W11 £7.50 BRASS SOLO – Transitional 4 mins One or two pieces of Grade 3-4 standard W12 £8.50 BRASS SOLO – Intermediate 5 mins One or two pieces of Grade 5-6 standard W13 £11.00 WOODWIND/BRASS SOLO REPERTOIRE – Intermediate 8 mins Two or three pieces of contrasting style and period up to Grade 6 standard One at least should be from memory W14 £11.00 BRASS SOLO – Advanced 8 mins One or two pieces of Grade 7 and above standard W15 £14.00 BRASS SOLO REPERTOIRE – Advanced 15 mins Two or three pieces of contrasting style and period all of Grade 7 and above standard or chosen from an Advanced Repertoire list One at least should be from memory NB This class is a qualifying class for the valuable prize of the Thelma King Instrumental Award See also the Concerto Class (W16) For Brass duets, see Classes W7 & W8 W16 £12.00 CONCERTO FOR WOODWIND, BRASS or RECORDER (Open to all ages) One movement from a Concerto or similar substantial work in Concerto style as agreed with the Instrumental Entry Secretary (ie composed with orchestral accompaniment). Competitors should provide a pianist (who is not adjudicated) for the orchestral part. It may be possible through the Entry Secretary to make a private arrangement with an Official Accompanist at a fee to be negotiated privately. However, this cannot be guaranteed This class is scheduled for the afternoon of Tuesday 21 March. The winner is required to play again in the Concerto Final on the evening of Wednesday 22 March to compete for the Premier Award of the Festival (with the winners of the Piano and String Concertos) 36 www.midsomersetfestival.org.uk
BATH YOUNG MUSICIAN OF THE YEAR 2016 Tuesday 8 November at 7.30pm in the Pump Room, Bath MUSIC Five high achievers from senior solo instrumental or vocal classes in the 2016 Mid-Somerset Festival have been invited to take part. They are all under 21 and live or study in Bath or within a 15 mile radius of the city The contestants are: Wesley Downing (trumpet), Georgia Entwisle (soprano), Beatrice Hudson (flute), Seren Nickson (violin) Katherine Stonham (piano) The 2015 Bath Young Musician of the Year Sebrina Lambert-Rose (cello) will also perform. Each performer will offer a programme of about 15 minutes, to this year’s panel of distinguished adjudicators: Martin Gatt, Kathryn Hardman and Nicola Meecham. The winner will receive the Bath Young Musician trophy and all the performers will receive a cash prize. Tickets for this popular event will be available from mid-September and obtainable from Bath Box Office, Bath Visitor Information Centre, Abbey Chambers, Abbey Churchyard, Bath.
