Golden State Choral Trophy November 20 - 24, 2016 Monterey (CA), USA The American International Choral Festival Monterey, the enchanting “Language Capital of the World” south of San Francisco, welcomes in 2016 choirs from all parts of the world in order to sing together and to reach for the Golden State Choral Trophy. Participants will not only have the possibility to take part in the competition but also to attend workshops led by international choral experts and to get to know the loveliness of Monterey’s coast first hand: The stunning peninsula represents a breath-taking composition of land, sea and sky and is considered as one of the most beauteous destinations in the world. The Choral Trophy competition will take place during the „Indian Summer”, the perfect travel season for the West Coast due to the extraordinary dry, warm and sunny weather. On November 24 America will celebrate Thanksgiving, so that American singers can enjoy this big choral meeting a few days longer and spend this public holiday as well as Black Friday together with their families on the Monterey peninsula.

Vijay Singh, Professor of Music at Central Washington University, has garnered international<br />

attention for his eclectic compositions, arrangements, workshops, and performances.<br />

Vijay’s music is performed by groups in both Choral and Jazz idioms with over 170 published<br />

pieces. He frequently composes on commission for some of America’s finest choirs and<br />

jazz vocal ensembles. An active Bass-Baritone soloist, he has performed with the Robert<br />

Shaw Chorale, Male Ensemble Northwest, Choral Cross Ties, David Byrne (Talking Heads),<br />

Clark Terry, numerous orchestras, and the award winning a cappella jazz quartet Just 4<br />

Kicks. Vijay’s CWU student ensembles have performed at national conferences for ACDA,<br />

MENC, IAJE, and JEN.<br />

A former ACDA National R&S Chair for Jazz, Vijay is a 15-time ASCAP Composer Awards<br />

recipient, strong advocate for music education, and has guest conducted All-State Honors<br />

Choirs in over 26 states. Vijay’s “MASS with Orchestra” received its world premiere at Avery<br />

Fischer Hall/Lincoln Center in New York City May 30th, 2011. Vijay received CWU’s highest<br />

faculty award, the “Distinguished University Professor for artistic achievement”, in 2012.<br />

He enjoys spending time with his family, cooking, and fishing.
