H. Ross and Helen Workman<br />
Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> <strong>Law</strong> and Business<br />
In a special ceremony celebr<strong>at</strong>ing the<br />
interdisciplinary study <strong>of</strong> law and business,<br />
Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Andrew P. Morriss was invested as<br />
the inaugural recipient <strong>of</strong> the H. Ross and Helen<br />
Workman Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> <strong>Law</strong> and Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Business<br />
on October 11 in the Max L. Rowe Auditorium.<br />
Conferring the honor on Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Morriss were<br />
<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Illinois</strong> President B. Joseph White, <strong>College</strong><br />
<strong>of</strong> Business Dean Avijit Ghosh, and <strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Law</strong> Dean<br />
Heidi M. Hurd.<br />
Prior to coming to the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>Illinois</strong>, Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Morriss<br />
served as Galen J. Roush<br />
Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Business <strong>Law</strong><br />
and Regul<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>at</strong> Case<br />
Western Reserve <strong>University</strong>,<br />
Cleveland, Ohio, where he<br />
was also associ<strong>at</strong>e dean from<br />
2000 to 2003. He is also a<br />
Research Fellow <strong>of</strong> the NYU<br />
Center for Labor and<br />
Employment <strong>Law</strong>, a Senior<br />
Fellow <strong>at</strong> the Property &<br />
Environment Research<br />
Center, Bozeman, Montana;<br />
a Senior Scholar <strong>at</strong> the<br />
Merc<strong>at</strong>us Center <strong>at</strong> George<br />
Mason <strong>University</strong>; and a regular<br />
visiting pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>at</strong><br />
Universidad Francisco<br />
Marroquín, in Gu<strong>at</strong>emala.<br />
Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Morriss received his A.B.<br />
degree from Princeton <strong>University</strong>, his J.D.<br />
and a masters degree in public affairs from The<br />
<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Texas <strong>at</strong> Austin, and his Ph.D. (Economics)<br />
from the Massachusetts Institute <strong>of</strong> Technology. After<br />
law school he clerked for U.S. District Judge Barefoot<br />
Sanders in the Northern District <strong>of</strong> Texas and worked<br />
for two years <strong>at</strong> Texas Rural Legal Aid in Hereford and<br />
Plainview, Texas.<br />
