Alpine Store
Many in the small community of Alpine remember the old fire station before it became a Goodwill store. It was,
after all, a fire station for nearly 50 years. The back wall of the store used to house a large closet and two
showers. The co-ed bunkroom was located along the east wall of the store. The fire station was built in 1957
by volunteers with donated materials and an $18,000 bond. In the good ole days, fire stations used to have to
fundraise to build or make improvements to their fire stations. Fortunately for Goodwill, the crew outgrew the
station. They moved into a new fire station and we moved in. It’s fun to share a little bit of history and the
reasons why the Alpine store is special.
