INTERVIEW WITH Drone Malone 5. What’s next? While I can’t divulge the details of my upcoming project, I will tell you that I’m actively in the process of capturing new, never before seen footage and that it will once again showcase why it’s so great to live in Sudbury. You won’t want to miss this! 6. How do you get the ideas for each video? In the beginning, thinking up ideas for videos was fairly easy and simple. Find a beautiful spot in Sudbury that I haven’t filmed yet and capture it from every angle. However, what I quickly began to realize was that the more videos I created, the more challenging it became to come up with a new, great idea that hadn’t already been done. It became a personal challenge of mine in a sense and I now push myself to create something bigger and better every time I share a new video. Often times I sit back and ask myself ‘what it is I love so much about Sudbury?’ The answer is often something that all Sudburians can relate to, and the ideas quickly grow from there. My wife, a huge supporter of Drone Malone I must add, has been a huge inspiration by sharing many of her ideas and feedback along the way and has played an instrumental role in my most recent video productions. 7. Do you only use a drone for filming, or do you use any traditional production methods as well? It wasn't until very recently that I began using a handheld camera. I now find that incorporating close up footage by hand is a nice addition to the drone footage and helps to create a more balanced video. The handheld equipment I use is actually a drone camera mounted to a handheld gimbal which allows the camera to stay extremely steady and smooth regardless of whether my hand moves or shakes. The available technology is unbelievable. 8. How did you decide who to feature in your #cantstopsudbury video? I thought it was important to reach out to some of our local businesses and community members that help make Sudbury what it is today. Part of my goal was to get people talking about these places and to remind them or, in some cases, introduce them to these gems found in our city. I'm a huge fan of supporting local and that's also what Drone Malone is all about. I began reaching out to some of the community members and local establishments that are well known in our city and was quickly overwhelmed by the interest from those willing to participate in the video. The unfortunate part was that I couldn't include everyone, even though I wanted to.
