FIELD OF REMEMBRANCE
AT WESTMINSTER ABBEY
The Poppy Factory, which makes
poppies, crosses and wreaths all year
round for The Royal British Legion's
annual Poppy Appeal, is responsible
for the Field of Remembrance at
Westminster Abbey which is this year
being opened by HRH The Duke of
Edinburgh and Prince Harry.

REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY
The annual Remembrance Day service
will be held on Sunday 13 November at
the Cenotaph in Whitehall to honour the
servicemen and women who sacrificed
their lives for their country. The service
has changed little since it was first
introduced in 1921 – hymns are sung,
prayers are said and a two minute silence
is observed on the stroke of 11 o’clock,
the World War One moment of ceasefire.
Wreaths are then laid by Her Majesty
The Queen, members of the Royal Family,
leaders of the Armed Forces and
politicians. The ceremony concludes
with a march past of war veterans, an
enduring gesture of respect for their
fallen comrades. Visitors will line the
streets for the service in Whitehall or
watch the screens in Trafalgar Square

LIGHTS SWITCH ON
Regent Street will once again be
lighting up W1 with the switch on of the
2016 Regent Street Christmas lights.
Taking place on 17 November, the street
will be closed from early evening to
allow thousands of shoppers to
experience what has become a firm
Christmas tradition for visitors and
Londoners alike.
A brand new scheme for 2016 nods
to Regent Street’s rich history and festive
heritage, paying homage to the earliest
Central London Christmas lights display,
which decorated the street in 1954. For
the first time, this year’s lights concept
will form part of a wider scheme that
runs the length of Regent Street and
across Piccadilly into St James’s,
finishing at Waterloo Place. It will be the
largest scheme in Central London with a
united identity that truly brings the spirit
of Christmas to life.
