Asthma Matters It is my privilege to be writing to you as the current Executive Director of Asthma Foundation Western Australia (AFWA) after the departure of CEO David Johnson. David’s service to AFWA has helped make the Foundation what it is today and to set it up for even greater outcomes for West Australian’s affected by asthma. Since taking on this executive role, as different to my position of President, I have seen first hand the excellent work done by the staff engaged at AFWA in pursuit of reducing the burden of asthma in WA. Change is always a difficult thing for any organisation to undergo whilst maintaining positivity and growth. The AFWA team have done both and I am proud of every one of them. Thank you team. The newly launched Asthma and COPD Telehealth Service is a major step to achieve a long held ambition of bringing AFWA services to regional and country Western Australia. Working with WA Country Health we now have education for patients and training for health professionals; all carried out from our offices in West Perth via high-quality teleconferencing. It is early days however already we are seeing both patients and health professionals enthusiastically take up this free service. Find out all the details about Telehealth on pg 3. The Manage My Asthma Kids Club was launched this year and has already grown to over 200 members. If you have a child with asthma – mild through to severe – check out our article on pg 9 about the Kids Club’s interactive and fun activities promoting asthma health and how to join. Before we know it the 2017 ECU Freeway Bike Hike for Asthma will be here. Save Sunday, 26th March in your diary next year as a family fun day or challenge yourself with the 60km Full Hike!
