Sales and Marketing (SM) Sales and Marketing (SM) fuels the future of the company. BDUK As well as being the first point of contact for customers, SM at BDUK plays the lead role in identifying opportunities, shaping requirements, generating market intelligence, acquiring investment funds and managing the bidding process. The team also creates long-term value for BDUK from customers, shapes markets and relationships, and is closely linked to the wider Boeing SM community, ensuring that knowledge, intelligence and best practice are shared and learned from. Supply Chain Management (SCM) Boeing has more than 250 suppliers based in the UK. The SCM function is an important and integral part of all BDUK’s business, responding to customer demands and supplying products and services, while balancing inventory holding. SCM designs the supply chains. It plans, sources suppliers, manages suppliers’ performance, controls logistics and stockholdings, and manages the reverse supply chain. It monitors all activities with the objective of creating added value, building a competitive infrastructure, leveraging worldwide logistics, synchronising supply with demand and measuring performance globally. It deals with many millions of pounds sterling a year, ensuring the customer gets the best deal possible. Engineering The Engineering function ensures that technical excellence drives affordable and predictable performance. Engineering works side-by-side with programme management to achieve flawless programme execution. Utilising its geographically dispersed skills groups, the BDUK engineering team provides through life support services and system upgrades for military aircraft and equipment. The chief engineer provides the focus and ensures that enterprise-wide best practices are applied across all sites, wherever they are located. The Engineering team has worked within the MoD’s airworthiness regulation framework for many years. Experience with the Chinook helicopter has developed to the point where design modifications to meet urgent operational requirements (UORs) are now undertaken within the UK at Yeovil under the MoD’s Design Approved Organisation Scheme. Their knowledge also covers the C-17 long range strategic heavylift transport aircraft, the Apache attack helicopter and a wide variety of non-aircraft capabilities. This includes the modelling 44 45
BDUK and simulation capability at the Boeing Portal, the Synthetic Training Environment and the Support Chain Information Services (SCIS) data processing capability. Information Technology (IT) Responsible for the Boeing UK Restricted Network, a key enabler for UK programme execution and the platform that the collaborative Boeing Assured SharePoint Environment is based upon. IT works closely with MoD accreditation authorities to ensure that the network and environments within it meet compliancy needs. BDUK is both Cyber Essentials Scheme and Cyber Essentials Scheme Plus certified. Support Services BDUK has a diverse workforce located at more than 22 locations across the United Kingdom, working from a wide variety of facilities including offices, hangars, laboratories, warehouses, services centres, a customer engagement environment and simulators. The operation is split into two branches: Employee Services and Support Services. Employee Services includes pay practices and benefits administration; immigration support to expatriates; relocation support to both local hires and expatriates; new hire inductions; UK-wide orientation day; car fleet and rental administration; mobile phone administration; contingent labour administration; and travel support and administration. Support Services include BDUK Site Services and Trade Controls. The Trade Controls team manage the oversight of regulatory requirements, the associated authorities and activities within the business. Security Charged with maintaining a secure and compliant environment in which BDUK operations and commercial interests can thrive, BDUK Security delivers and coordinates a full range of counter threat, protective security, assurance and business resilience activities. Adopting a risk managed approach, the diversely qualified team of security professionals supports all BDUK functions, programmes and new business opportunities by protecting people, property and information. Ethics and Business Conduct Boeing has a robust ‘speak up’ culture across the enterprise. Organisations with ‘speak up’ cultures benefit all of their stakeholders as improper conduct is more likely to be prevented or identified early, and the best ideas for improving products and services are more likely to be shared.
