Instoneville: a Model Village In 1920 Instoneville was built by Askern Garden City Association Ltd to house mine workers and their families. The design was inspired by the Garden City movement - with improved homes - gardens, inside water and baths; plus amenities: shops and recreation facilities. A hill was flattened on the Sutton side of Askern to create the estate. Sir Samuel Instone was the Chairman of Askern Coal & Iron Company.
