Askern Saw Mills 1891 Started in 1947 as a small family business supplying timber to local coal pits. In the late 1960s it began manufacturing timber drums for the cable industry. The saw mills operated on the site of South Parade Baths, which remained until the 1950s as a reminder of Askern’s spa town era, albeit with a variety of different uses: a carpet factory, a second hand shop and an Apostolic Church.
