<strong>Askern</strong>’s other industries: Coalite &<br />
brickmaking<br />
The Coalite plant was established during the<br />
late 1920s. It closed in 1986 and was<br />
subsequently demolished.<br />
<strong>Askern</strong> Brick & Tile Co Ltd was situated to the<br />
north of the town. The chimney was the tallest<br />
in Yorkshire when it was first built.<br />
