Our first impressions on OER<br />
At first the term OER was introduced by our lecturer at a day school and we were<br />
informed about the project on OER integrated teaching and learning. We were astonished<br />
to hear that we will be given a chance to participate in this innovative<br />
project. Earlier we had no idea about OER. We used non-electronic materials, web<br />
pages and text books as our teaching aids as we were not aware of OER. Therefore,<br />
we expressed our consent to participate in the project. After the first intervention<br />
workshop conducted in March 2015 and through the awareness program we got to<br />
know about the OER concept.<br />
We were amazed to know that a lot of OER are available without any cost which<br />
can be used for teaching and learning easily. We understood that OER are helpful<br />
to improve access to learning opportunities by sharing knowledge and learning resources.<br />
The OER movement seeks to stimulate, facilitate and increase the growth<br />
of the learning resources freely available on the Internet.<br />
One of our team members, Rev. E. Edwinathan appreciated his experience of the<br />
first intervention workshop as follows:<br />
30th March 2015 - “It is a very useful programme. Today I could learn about the OER<br />
concept. It helps me a lot to my teaching practice. Through this OER, I will plan out<br />
better lesson plans in future.”<br />
Further, Kingston Sumanraj also expressed his opinion as follows:<br />
30th March 2015- “First and foremost I enjoyed OER programme enthusiastically. I<br />
learned a lot of this programme. I hope it helps me to enhance my teaching-learning<br />
processes”<br />
After this workshop we wondered how we should integrate OER our teaching in our<br />
schools. At the very beginning we were not aware of how to download or integrate<br />
OER in our teaching and learning process. However we perceived this as a wonderful<br />
experience.<br />
Starting point of OER in our profession<br />
We started to use OER as teaching materials in our classroom activities after the<br />
first workshop. With the help of our colleagues we searched OER that are free to<br />
