NEWBURY - The Newbury Council on Aging is seeking a volunteer to ride the COA Van and<br />

assist riders as needed. This position is appropriate for Newbury homeowners aged 60 and over,<br />

who would like to volunteer in return for a property tax abatement of $1000.00. The van monitor<br />

is available to riders who may need assistance boarding and exiting the van, and carrying packages<br />

for shoppers. The COA Van operates weekly grocery shopping trips and occasional field trips. For<br />

NEWBURYPORT - Hope Community Church will hold its traditional Candlelight Christmas<br />

Eve services on December 24 at 3pm and 5pm. Each service includes carols, special music, candles,<br />

and hot mulled cider afterwards. All ages welcome to these services. Childcare is available for infant<br />

through age 4. On Christmas Day, a worship service will be held at 10:45am to celebrate the birth<br />

of Jesus. All children will attend the service; there will be no children’s programs (infant – Gr 5) that<br />

NEWBURYPORT - Parker River National Wildlife Refuge has released details about its 20<strong>16</strong>/17<br />

Nature and Wildlife Photography Contest. Those wishing to participate in this year’s contest may<br />

submit matted prints now thru Wednesday, February 15th, 2017. This year’s two themed categories<br />

are “Plum Island Nature and Wildlife” and “New England Nature & Wildlife.” Each of the two<br />

categories will welcome and include the full range of related image types including landscapes,<br />

seascapes, wildlife, and plants. Images captured with any type of camera – including cell phones!<br />

– are welcome. Finally, entries will be judged within two age categories – adult and youth (under<br />

age 18). A panel of judges – comprised of refuge staff and experienced photographers – will select<br />

this year’s contest winners. The winners will be announced during the refuge’s annual Conservation<br />

Film Festival (March 3-5, 2017). Hunt’s Photo, a contest co-sponsor, will once again provide the<br />

prizes for winners in the various contest categories. The winning contest entries will be placed on<br />

exhibit in the refuge visitor center for the next year. Contest participants may submit up to two<br />

prints. A $5 application fee will cover one or two entries. Maximum allowable print size is 8”<br />

x 10”. Prints can either be mailed to or dropped off at the refuge visitor center, seven days per<br />

week, between the hours of 9:00 am and 4:00 pm. The visitor center is located at 6 Plum Island<br />

Turnpike, Newburyport, MA, 01950. All prints must be presented in a white matte. A complete<br />

list of contest guidelines is available through the refuge’s main<br />

home page: https://www.fws.gov/refuge/parker_river/. All contest<br />

entries will be on public display in the refuge visitor center during<br />

the week leading up to and during the Conservation Film Festival.<br />

The fifth annual photo contest is sponsored by the refuge, the<br />

Photographic Society of Parker River NWR, and Hunt’s Photo.<br />

ROWLEY - Student Art on Display in December - This month<br />

the Rowley Public Library is hosting art created by local students<br />

from Parker River School. The display case will feature the<br />

migration of monarch butterflies. Each fall, the transitional<br />

kindergarten students help and release monarchs for their journey<br />

to Mexico. Older students are using our wall space to display<br />

their collaborative project work using combinations of different<br />

mediums. It is very colorful and creative! Their artwork will be<br />

on exhibit through the month of December. The Rowley Public<br />
