Lynn began her work in the cemeteries in Amesbury approximately 5-7 years ago and has not finished her efforts to document the veterans that are buried in some of the oldest Amesbury burial grounds. Lynn has a BS in Business Administration, a Master’s Pets, Animals, Plus in Public Administration and a PhD. in Political Science. This position is appropriate for Newbury homeowners aged 60 and over, who would like to volunteer in return for a property tax abatement of $1000.00. The van monitor is available to riders who may need assistance boarding and exiting the van, and carrying packages for shoppers. The COA Van operates weekly grocery shopping trips and occasional field trips. Don’t miss it! ----------------------------------------------------------- NEWBURYPORT - Parker River National Wildlife Refuge has released details about its 2016/17 Nature and Wildlife Photography Contest. Those wishing to participate in this year’s contest may submit matted prints now thru Wednesday, February 15th, 2017. This year’s two themed categories are “Plum Island Nature and Wildlife” and “New England Nature & Wildlife.” Each of the two categories will welcome and include the full range of related image types including landscapes, seascapes, wildlife, and plants. Images captured with any type of camera – including cell phones! – are welcome. Finally, entries will be judged within two age categories – adult and youth (under age 18). A panel of judges – comprised of refuge staff and experienced photographers – will select this year’s contest winners. The winners will be announced during the refuge’s annual Conservation Film Festival (March 3-5, 2017). Hunt’s Photo, a contest co-sponsor, will once again provide the prizes for winners in the various contest categories. The winning contest entries will be placed on exhibit in the refuge visitor center for the next year. Contest participants may submit up to two prints. A $5 application fee will cover one or two entries. Maximum allowable print size is 8” x 10”. Prints can either be mailed to or dropped off at the refuge visitor center, seven days per week, between the hours of 9:00 am and 4:00 pm. The visitor center is located at 6 Plum Island Turnpike, Newburyport, MA, 01950. All prints must be presented in a white matte. A complete list of contest guidelines is available through the refuge’s main home page: https://www.fws.gov/refuge/parker_river/. All contest entries will be on public display in the refuge visitor center during the week leading up to and during the Conservation Film Festival. The fifth annual photo contest is sponsored by the refuge, the Photographic Society of Parker River NWR, and Hunt’s Photo. ----------------------------------------------------------- ROWLEY - Student Art on Display in December - This month the Rowley Public Library is hosting art created by local students from Parker River School. The display case will feature the migration of monarch butterflies. Each fall, the transitional kindergarten students help and release monarchs for their journey to Mexico. Older students are using our wall space to display their collaborative project work using combinations of different mediums. It is very colorful and creative! Their artwork will be on exhibit through the month of December. The Rowley Public Library, 141 Main Street in Rowley, is fully accessible.
