• 40% of youth reported they drank energy drinks for the following reasons: to get pumped up<br />

(12%), to stay awake to do homework (12%), before games or practice (9%), to help me<br />

perform (8%), to stay awake to play video games (7%), to mix with alcohol (5%), and for some<br />

other reason (19%).<br />

Physical Activity<br />

• 74% of Fairfield County youth participated in at least 60 minutes of physical activity on 3 or<br />

more days in the past week. 49% did so on 5 or more days in the past week (YRBS reports 48%<br />

for Ohio in 2013 and 49% for the U.S. in 2015), and 28% did so every day in the past week (YRBS<br />

reports 26% for Ohio in 2013 and 27% for the U.S. in 2015). 11% of youth did not participate in at<br />

least 60 minutes of physical activity on any day in the past week (YRBS reports 13% for Ohio in<br />

2013 and 14% for the U.S. in 2015).<br />

• The CDC recommends that children and adolescents participate in at least 60 minutes of<br />

physical activity per day. As part of their 60 minutes per day; aerobic activity, muscle<br />

strengthening, and bone strengthening are three distinct types of physical activity that<br />

children should engage in, appropriate to their age. Children should participate in each of<br />

these types of activity on at least three days per week.<br />

• Fairfield County youth spent an average of 3.4 hours on their cell phone, 1.5 hours watching<br />

TV, 1.4 hours on their computer/tablet and 1.2 hours playing video games on an average day<br />

of the week.<br />
