John’s Jottings
Good afternoon everyone. Welcome to Woodstock Park.
I hope you all had a good Christmas and Santa got you everything you wanted!
Because of the Christmas break this programme covers our matches on Saturday 31st
December and Monday 2nd January. Welcome to the Players, Officials and Supporters of
both clubs and the match officials for both games.
Our last match was at Faversham Town on Boxing Day. Because of printing deadlines
this programme had to be printed before the result of this game was known so included in
the programme is an insert with the up to date league tables.
Our visitors on New Years Eve are Hastings United who, because of various cup matches,
have a bit of catching up to do as far as league matches are concerned. Our match at
The Pilot Field was an excellent advert for football at our level. It was also one of our best
performances of the season resulting in us sharing the points. We will certainly have to
play at least as well to get something out of this game. The manager of Hastings is our ex
player, Darren Hare, who played for us in our Southern League days in the 2005-2006
season.
On Bank Holiday Monday Greenwich Borough make the short journey to Woodstock
Park. Greenwich Borough have the financial backing that we can only dream about. Despite
this we came back from our first encounter with them with all three points after what
was another excellent performance. Scoring three goals in the first twelve minutes.
For these holiday matches we certainly have to improve on the performances that we
have seen from The Brickies in the last two matches. It’s true to say though that Dorking
Wanderers did play very well and fully justified their top of the table position, however,
Chipstead were not in the same class and our performance in that match was very disappointing.
They are a very physical side and we seemed to struggle with that.
The supporters club are selling raffle tickets today for their Christmas raffle. Please support
them as funds raise support the main club. Thanks to all supporters for regularly buying
this programme and purchasing “Golden Goal” tickets from Danny. All of this helps to
keep the club going. One of our biggest fund raisers is the Brickies lottery which I keep
plugging! An outlay of £1.00 a week gives you three chances a week of winning £40.00.
Once a month there is an additional draw for a £100 prize. At Christmas there is a £500
prize that this year was won by a lady, Joan Challoner, who has been a lottery supporter
of ours for many years. Thanks to The Vicar of Tunstall, Revd Alan Pinnegar for drawing
out the winner this year.
Our next match is on Saturday 7th January when we have another difficult game. This
time against Carshalton Athletic on their artificial pitch. We are at home again on Saturday
14th January when Guernsey are our visitors.
A Happy New year to everyone!
John
