Innovation and technology have been a major trend of modern<br />

world development. In order to open up business opportunities<br />

and promote economic development, on 20 November 2015<br />

Hong Kong established the Innovation and Technology Bureau<br />

(hereinafter referred to as “ITB” ), which leads Hong Kong’s<br />

innovation and technology development and through<br />

formulating comprehensive policies, supporting<br />

infrastructures and cultivating talents. The public generally<br />

welcome the establishment of the ITB, and the industry thinks<br />

that it can help to create economic diversification and more<br />

job opportunities in Hong Kong.<br />

The Advantages of<br />

Hong Kong’s Innovation and<br />

Technology Development<br />

A great number of advantages in<br />

innovation and technology, such as<br />

well-established legal system,<br />

effective intellectual property<br />

protection, comprehensive technology<br />

infrastructures and financial system,<br />

and marvellous pool of talents<br />

provides Hong Kong a friendly<br />

environment to develop<br />

high-value-added industry and<br />

attracts world-leading scientific<br />

research institutions to settle down. In<br />

2015, Karolinska<br />

Institute and<br />

Massachusetts<br />

Institute of Technology respectively<br />

announced the establishment of the<br />

first overseas scientific research base<br />

and innovation centre in Hong Kong.<br />

The Academy of Science of<br />

Hong Kong which has been recently<br />

established can also facilitate<br />

Hong Kong’s scientific research<br />

development.<br />
