the venue, which is run by volunteers, is the<br />

home base for the Edmonton Jazz Society.<br />

Jam sessions occur on Tuesday nights. The<br />

Yardbird Festival of Canadian Jazz is held in<br />

As the story goes, the Shanghai jazz boom<br />

of the 1930s brought the American music to<br />

China. Sometime after its rise to popularity,<br />

jazz music disappeared. This club bills itself<br />

as one of the first clubs to bring jazz to<br />

China after a 40-year absence. It features<br />

a revolving cast of instrumentalists and<br />

singers.<br />

renovated digs seven years ago. The venue<br />

has a deep connection to jazz history—<br />

Dexter Gordon and Ben Webster based their<br />

European jazz invasion from the Jazzhus—<br />

the Ernie Wilkins Almost Big Band and the<br />

Liane Carroll Trio.<br />
