A Study in Greyscale - IR Landscapes
Pictures by Alan Griffiths
IR effect pictures are unusual in appearance
as the digital image is converted to a ‘heat’
image.
Cold areas appear darker then the warm areas
so creating a heat map of the picture. This
should not be confused with thermal imaging
which is also referred to as Far Infrared.
What we see is an interpretation of Near
Infrared. To ‘see’ the picture in this way can
produce some stunning effects.
A Study in Nature - Kingfisher
Pictures by Scott Latham
Although the Kingfisher is found on most rivers and
lakes, they move very quickly, darting in and out of
the water to fast to follow. But one thing they do is
to have a favoured perch. So if predictive
photography or fast reactions are not your forte, then
set the camera to watch the perch.
If you see the bird diving to the same area, then take
the wider view and crop in later. Just make sure you
use a fast enough speed to freeze the action.
The Cathedral of Saint- Etienne includes various architectural styles. Romanesque areas of the building
were constructed in the 12th century. It was later rebuilt, mainly in Gothic style, and two additional
structures in Baroque style were added in the 17th Century.
A rather large monkey, a bit smaller than a baboon, no
not close to the oversized scary alpha male baboon
with big teeth, I mean at an average.
These ones hang out most of the time, doing just that…
hanging out, in trees, up there…they don’t move far
from water and you know those nuts that everyone else
don’t want because they are too hard to crack, that’s
the ones these guys open, as well as chewing trough
old wood and bark all in the efforts of looking for the
juicy insects in there.
Wildlife Borneo - Another Day in Paradise 13
Sabah Reef by Gary Bridger
The underwater world of Sabah Reef is threatened by development and irresponsible tourism. Here is just a
glimpse of the fragile beauty that may soon disappear.
This tiny miner bee is excavating coarse sand particles to make its nest under patio slabs. Amazing to watch
such a tiny, industrious worker. Robert Murray
