LITTLE SCHOOL HAS BIG HEART
Little School Has A Big Heart
Lanakila Baptist Church and School is 50 years old, and has been donating food
to various missions for at least the last 14. This year it collected 19,387 pounds
for River of Life Mission and Hawaii Foodbank. In addition, the children donated
and packed 91 shoeboxes full of little Christmas gifts and sent them overseas to
be distributed worldwide via Operation Christmas Child — a project of Samaritan’s
Purse — to children around the world. PHOTO FROM TRACEY TORDA
Yvelise Hixson Wins A $150
Spree At Times Supermarkets
On Wednesday, Yvelise
Hixson wanted to get
some fruit, so she took a
trip to Times Supermarkets
in Kaimuki. As she stood
outside the store at 4:30
p.m., MidWeek’s representative
approached Yvelise
with a simple question.
She answered correctly
and instantly won a $150
Times Supermarkets shopping
spree.
PTSF NEWS
Welcome to the PTSF’s 1st newsletter for the 2016-2017 school year.
Special thanks to the parents who have attended the last 3 meetings.
If you have not had an opportunity to attend, we would like to invite
you to come. Let’s join together to make a difference. We meet the
1st Tuesday of every month from 6:30-7:30pm in the 6th grade
classroom.
During Christmas Break our school will undergo some exciting
improvements. When school resumes in January, the playground
will be a bit more fun for the students. There will be new playground
equipment installed. Mrs. Pauley is also hoping to have a new
overhead projector, iPad and accessories for our 1st and 2nd grade
classrooms installed.
This year we are trying to help parents stay connected. Each
classroom now has a parent representative. If you’d like to help
please contact Traci Mckinney or Mrs. Pauley. Our goal is to have
at least 2 representatives per classroom.
We also invite families to share their different talents. We are
looking for grant writers and any person or business that can
donate their time and trade skills to help improve our school.
This holiday season the students packed and donated 91 shoeboxes full of little Christmas gifts
and sent them overseas to be distributed worldwide via Operation Christmas Child-a project
of Samaritan Purse, to children around the world
FUNDRAISING
Our current fundraising target this year is $20,000. With God willing we will do so much more. Our main
goal this year is to make the play area even better for our children. Some repairs are needed in this area as
well as a fun new piece of play equipment.
Thank you to all the parents and families who helped make this year’s 1st round of MOLOKAI SWEETBREAD
and DINNER ROLLS Fundraiser such a huge success. We are hoping the 2nd round will be just as good or
better. Our 1st Habilitat (Christmas Tree) Fundraiser was a huge success as well… A big THANK YOU again.
Between the both we profited close to $2,000. If anyone could please share their pictures of trees, wreaths
or door chimes you bought would be greatly appreciated. We would like to do this fundraiser next year and
having actual photos of the products would help.
Our next fundraiser starts off in January, we are offering our Lanakila Discount Cards in December as a presale
before Christmas vacation. If you need an idea for a Christmas Gift or Stocking Stuffer, this is totally up
your alley. Many discounts only $20 a card and they don’t expire till Feb 2018.
EVERYONE LOVES PIZZA RIGHT???
Please don’t forget about our Papa John Pizza nights. Another awesome fundraiser happening. If you order
from Papa John’s on a LBES night please save your little ticket from your box or reciept bring it to school the
next school day and a percentage of your sales will go back to our school. What an awesome way to help
our school and our hardworking parents by letting someone else take on the frustration of making dinner.
BOX TOPS
Keep a look out for those Box Tops they are on so many items you buy every day. Clip them send them to
school with your child’s name. Each and every Box Top counts.
NATIONAL SCHOOL CHOICE WEEK
What is it you ask?… Well it’s very important to our school. Our students, faculty and hopefully many, if not
most, of our parents will spend some time in front of the State Capitol building on January 24th, showing our
school spirit and our support of National School Choice. If you’d like to learn more please visit their website
