Take a closer look at what many guys are wearing around
the MPH campus. You might see student-athlete Fares
Awa sporting the Air Jordan XI Low
Navy & Gum basket-
ball shoes while rocking music artist Drake’s OVO Views hoodie.
Awa is just one of many students who
take part in a new
trend of men’s celebrity style, which involves dressing to
resemble the style of famous athletes, musicians or actors by
sporting their
tour or official team gear or their very own
clothing lines.
Whether it’s NBA athlete LeBron James, rapper Kanye
West, or actor
Matthew McConaughey,
celebrities have been
influencing, as well as creating, clothing styles for men, and
many MPH students enjoy the trend.
“There is definitely a presence of celebrity clothing,” said
Awa, a senior.
“People idolize and draw from these celebrities.
I know I do.”

Arkhurst expresses the celebrity
trends that have become
popular in recent years around
campus. Arkhurst’s style is
influenced by celebrities from
actor Matthew McConaughey to
rappers like A$AP Rocky.
Arkhurst, Class of 2016, has
celebrity clothing for almost his
entire wardrobe.
“Skinny jeans thanks to
Kanye,” he said, “turtlenecks like
Steve Jobs, bombers because of
A$AP Rocky and sometimes
all black to resemble Batman. I
wear what I wear to mirror my
idols because I hope to reach
the same heights as them.”
Celebrity clothing lines can
be found mostly online, sold by
the celebrities themselves or in
stores like H&M or Express.
