CONTRACT FOR INSTALLATION OF UNDERGROUND STEAM SERVICE<br />

FOR PHYSICS RESEARCH LABORATORY (BETATRON BUILDING)<br />

(15) Bids were received on July 9, 1946, for the installation <strong>of</strong> underground<br />

steam service and return in woodlog for the Physics Research Laboratory<br />

(Betatron Building). Specifications were prepared by Sargent and Lundy, engineers<br />

for this work, who also reviewed the bids received, which were as follows:<br />

Robert Gordon, Inc., $18,892; Carson-Payson Company, $26,269.<br />

The lower bid is a firm bid without an escalation clause.<br />

The Director <strong>of</strong> the Physical Plant and the Comptroller recommend acceptance<br />

<strong>of</strong> the bid from Robert Gordon, Inc.<br />

In order to expedite the work on this contract, the matter was submitted<br />

to the Executive Committee <strong>of</strong> the Board, which approved the award to the<br />

lower bidder as recommended.<br />

On motion <strong>of</strong> Mr. Williamson, this award was approved.<br />

SPECIAL APPROPRIATIONS FOR NONRECURRING EXPENDITURES<br />

(16) The Committee on Special Appropriations and Nonrecurring Expenditures<br />

recommends assignments from the General Reserve Fund for the following<br />

purposes, these appropriations to be available until January I, 1947:<br />

Speech Clinic — Equipment for research and training for testing and<br />

demonstration <strong>of</strong> hearing aids $2 500<br />

College <strong>of</strong> Commerce — Calculating machines for use in the statistics laboratory<br />

in the Economics Department 2 700<br />

College <strong>of</strong> Veterinary Medicine — Remodeling <strong>of</strong> classroom (for instruction<br />

in gross anatomy until new Veterinary Building has been constructed).<br />

3 000<br />

Total .$8 200<br />

I concur.<br />

On motion <strong>of</strong> Mr. McKelvey, these appropriations were made as<br />

recommended, by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Forn<strong>of</strong>, Mrs. Grigsby,<br />

Mr. Livingston, Mr. McKelvey, Mr. McLaughlin, Dr. Meyer, Mr. Williamson;<br />

no, none; absent, Mr. Davis, Mr. Green, Dr. Luken, Mr.<br />

Nickell.<br />

SPECIAL APPROPRIATIONS OF ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION<br />

APPROVED BY PRESIDENT TO JUNE 30, 1946<br />

(17) In approving the Athletic Association budget for the previous year<br />

(Minutes, August 29, 1945, page 633), the Board <strong>of</strong> Trustees authorized the<br />

President to make changes and adjustments as recommended by the Association's<br />

Board <strong>of</strong> Directors within the total estimated income.<br />

Following is a statement <strong>of</strong> the adjustments thus made to June 30, 1946, not<br />

previously reported:<br />

Special Appropriations<br />

Summer personnel work for veterans $ 400<br />

Additions to 1945-1946 Operating Budget<br />

Summer recreational program for intramural and recreation 1 000<br />

Increase in travel budget for track I 200<br />

Total $2 200<br />

The following contracts were approved by the Executive Committee <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Athletic Association and emergency action was requested in order to complete<br />

the work prior to the opening <strong>of</strong> the football season. The Comptroller has approved<br />

these contracts:<br />

1. Contract for the construction <strong>of</strong> a concrete driveway east <strong>of</strong> Memorial<br />

Stadium. Contract awarded to Mr. Lynne Meyer in the amount <strong>of</strong> $13,123.75.<br />

2. Contract for the re-paving <strong>of</strong> the tennis courts east <strong>of</strong> Memorial Stadium.<br />

Contract awarded to the General Paving Company in the amount <strong>of</strong> $29,224.<br />

Contracts were awarded in both cases to the lowest bidder.<br />

On motion <strong>of</strong> Mr. Williamson, these adjustments and awards were<br />

confirmed.
