2013 was also the first year in

Isuzu Trucks had a solid performance
at the end of 2014,
exceeding the 4 000 units’
sales mark for the second
year in a row and remained
the leader in the cab-overchassis
and medium commercial
vehicle (MCV) segment
of the industry, with a
market share of 12.8% of the
total truck market.
N-Series products accounted
for 21% of the MCV market,
giving Isuzu Trucks
market leadership of the segment
while the F-Series
range of trucks achieved
23.4% of the heavy commercial
market (HCV) market.
Since the introduction of the
FX-Series the range continued
to grow.
In 2015 Isuzu Trucks aligned
strategies, expanded the
business model and coupled
with solid sales efforts totalling
4 550 units from across
the Dealer Network, Isuzu
Trucks hit a new high and
increased its market share
by 2% to 14.9%. Equally the
Company’s share in the MCV
market increased to 27%
while the share in the HCV
market added four percentage
points to a total share of
33%.
The acquisition of Port Elizabeth
based companies Kanu
Commercial Body Construction
(Pty) Ltd offers the opportunity
to deliver
ready-built trucks to Dealers
faster, while chassis modifications
are done by Automotive
Chassis Technologies
(ACT) where required. Both
Kanu and ACT still service
the local market and are not
dedicated to Isuzu Trucks in
entirety.
2016 was a trying year but
despite certain challenges,
Isuzu Truck South Africa
held onto its Number 1 position
for a fourth consecutive
year and ended with a
14.6% market share from
the total park of 3 952 units.

Cadillac claims victory at the Daytona 24 Hours
THE Wayne Taylor Racing
Cadillac DPi-V.R shared by
brothers Ricky and Jordan
Taylor, Max Angelelli and Jeff
Gordon took victory in last
weekends Daytona 24 Hour
race.
Wayne Taylor is a former
East Londoner.
The race turned into a 20-
minute dash to the flag after
the 21st and final safety car
of an event that ran in wet
conditions for nearly half of
its duration.
The WTR Cadillac with Ricky
Taylor at the wheel was a
second behind Albuquerque
after the race went green for
the final time.
Taylor closed down the gap
and then made an opportunist
move into Turn 1 with four
laps to go.
The WTR had got his nose
alongside the rear wheels of
the leader when Albuquerque
turned in and spun as a result
of the ensuing contact.
That gave Taylor a lead of
just over four seconds, which
the Action Express driver
was able to eat into over the
remaining laps.
Jordan Taylor said: "I'm relieved
because we've come
close so many times before.
"My little brother finally made
it happen today."
The two Cadillacs moved
away from their remaining
rival once the track began to
dry as lunchtime approached
on Sunday.
The Spirit of Daytona Riley-
Gibson MK30 LMP2 car
could run with the leaders
during the wet portion of the
race, but had no answer for
the Cadillacs on a dry track.
Marc Goossens, Renger van
der Zande and Rene Rast
slipped a lap down in the
Riley before the race was
complete.

New Year with a sleeker model
to augment the model’s iconic
status
One of the most difficult questions
to answer in the automotive
industry is, what makes a
really great car?
The consensus on the topic is
as elusive as flying saucers.
But we would put the Toyota
Corolla forward as one of the
best nameplates ever manufactured.
There are many reasons
this is a car we are proud
of.
Now well into its eleventh generation,
and more than 50
years since being introduced
onto the market, there is no
doubt that Toyota has had
enough time to perfect the Corolla
recipe.
When it launched in 1966, Toyota
certainly had high hopes
that the Corolla was going to
be a great success.
Suffice to say, in just three
years, the Corolla became
Japan’s top-selling model.
The success quickly spread to
other countries around the
world, and the rest is history.
The new Corolla upgrades include
exterior front- and rearend
refreshments and enhanced
interior modifications
to give it a classier feel. The
design is further accentuated
by the LEDs (Exclusive models).
To improve passive safety,
both VSC and HAC have become
standard on 1.6 models
and above.
Inside, the instrument panel
has been updated with a layered
structure that hides joins,
along with a redesigned climate
control panel and circular
air vents.Audio Touch
Screen/DVD increased from
6.1” to 7” (Prestige models).
The engine line-up remains
unchanged, featuring a choice
of a 1.4 litre D-4D turbodiesel
and three petrol engines; a
1.3-litre Dual VVT-i unit, a 1.6-
litre Dual VVT-i engine and the
1.8-litre Dual VVT-i unit.
Revised tuning of the CVT
transmission delivers shifts
that are quicker, crisper and
smoother with better matching
to engine speed.
The front MacPherson strut
and rear torsion-beam suspension
systems adopt larger-diameter
shock absorbers to
enhance damping force for an
improved balance between
ride comfort and handling stability.
Other changes that reduce
noise, vibration and harshness
include beading on the
front fender liner to reduce
turbulence inside the wheel
housing, a thicker inner silencer
for the dash panel and a
denser material for the floor
insulation.
The 1.3-litre petrol engine is
equipped with Dual Variable
Valve Timing-intelligent (Dual
VVT-i) and a high compression
ratio of 11.5:1, which increases
the thermal efficiency
of the engine. It generates
73kW at 6000rpm and maximum
torque of 128Nm at
3800rpm.
Dual VVT-i helps boost response
levels across the entire
rev range by varying the
air-fuel intake and exhaust
valve timing to suit the conditions
at any given time. In
addition to improving torque
at low and medium engine
speeds, the system also reduces
emissions and enhances
fuel efficiency.
Available with either a sixspeed
manual or Multidrive S
automatic (CVT) transmission
and also benefitting from the
Dual Variable Valve Timingintelligent
(Dual VVT-i) technology
