GLOVE STANDARDS
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
AS/NZS 2161.2:1998
EN420
The EN420 standard defines the general
requirements for ergonomy, glove construction,
high visibility, innocuousness, cleaning, comfort
and efficiency, marking and information,
applicable to all protective gloves.
• Glove design and construction is suitable for
its intended use.
• Any seams present in construction do not
result in a significant decrease in product
performance.
• The gloves will not harm the health or hygiene
of the user.
• Glove sizing conforms to set specifications
with respect to hand circumference.
• Minimum glove lengths are specified for each
size.
• Gloves must be generally marked with trade
mark or other identification of
manufacturer/representative, product code
name or code and size.
• Instructions for use.
• Packaging carries additional information as to
where the product can be obtained and
pictograms denoting performance levels
against Standards as appropriate.
PROTECTION AGAINST
MECHANICAL HAZARDS
AS/NZS 2161.3:1998
EN388
The EN388 standard applies to all types of
protective gloves with respect to mechanical
aggression from abrasion, cutting, tearing and
puncture. These ratings are calculated from
laboratory test results and do not replace the
actual testing of the product in real conditions in
the field. The results also enable you to
compare the performance between various
products.
• Level X: The test is not applicable, or the glove
is not tested
• Level 0: Nil performance or result
• Level 1: Minimum result
• Level 2: Good result
• Level 3: Very Good result
• Level 4 & over: Excellent result
