It allegedly began with this painting:
T
he subject matter wasn’t
new, but the setting
was...The people of
Renaissance Florence and
surrounding Tuscany were
living outdoors and loving
it, and the painters were
celebrating it. The
architecture began
reflecting this trend—both
the classical and
vernacular., and the ideal
exists to this day. As with
most vernacular
architecture, Tuscan was
no exception...it took the
principles of classical
architecture and stripped
it down to its barest
necessities. The thick walls
and tile roofs moderated
the temperate climate,
and incorporated the
seamless indoor-outdoor
flow.
Tuscan Vernacular
Architecture still responds
to that ancient ideal,
whether it is in Cortona or
Sonoma .

Diamond A Website
This web site is about the people and organizations of a residential area in the western hills of Sonoma
Valley, called Diamond A. The web site is designed, not only for Diamond A residents and owners, but
also for anyone considering Diamond A as a place to live.
The web site is entitled, "Diamond A Ranch" in honor of the actual ranch that existed here before the
residential development began.
During the residential development, the Diamond A area was partitioned into two subdivisions, plus an
independent area. The two subdivisions are called: [1] Diamond A Ranch Estates - about 190 lots; and [2]
Diamond A Ranches - about 16 lots. We will call the rest of Diamond A: [3] Diamond A Independents -
about 34 lots. In Diamond A, the lots range in size from one to over ten acres.
An overview, of what you need to know to live in Diamond A, is given under the Navigation tab "Living
Here." This amounts to a summary of the entire web site.
A prominent feature of Diamond A is a complex network of equestrian trails (see Trailblazers). Another
attraction is the Recreation Center (Recreation Association), which is the center of sports and social
activities. Diamond A is a place of beauty , and a place with a strong sense of community.
The three Diamond A organizations, who are funding this web site are:
Neighborhood Association
Recreation Association
Mutual Water Company
Diamond A has a small volunteer fire station, which is operated by Sonoma Valley FireMed. This fire station
is located at 18843 Spring Street on the Recreation Center grounds, and is central to the Diamond A
Emergency Preparedness plans.
To contact Diamond A, send email to dapoass@gmail.com.
