about it. But I am telling you these experiences in<br />

order that you may know what we have passed<br />

through. We tried in every way possible to rid the<br />

church of this evil. We declared in the name of the<br />

Lord God of Israel that God does not work through<br />

his children in a way that brings the truth into<br />

disrepute, and that unnecessarily creates deepseated<br />

prejudice and bitter opposition. In our work<br />

we must take a straightforward course and seek to<br />

reach the people where they are.<br />

Rebuking Fanaticism.—R. Mackin: I remember<br />

reading very much of this in volume 1 of<br />

Testimonies for the Church—your experience in<br />

rebuking fanaticism, and of the cause in the East<br />

when they set the time, in 1855, I believe.<br />
