unexpected to me. I poured it out upon them,<br />

showing them that the Lord sent his ministers with<br />

a message and the message they brought was the<br />

very means God had ordained to reach them, but<br />

they felt at liberty to pick it in pieces and make of<br />

none effect the Word of God.... I can tell you there<br />

was great astonishment and marveling that I dared<br />

to speak to them thus.—Letter 19, 1884.<br />

Bearing Reproofs an Unpleasant Task for<br />

<strong>Ellen</strong> <strong>White</strong>.—Were I to go to the [General]<br />

Conference [session], I should be compelled to<br />

take positions that would cut some to the quick. It<br />

greatly hurts me to do this, and it is a long time<br />

before I recover from the strain that such an<br />

experience brings on me.—Letter 17, 1903.<br />

Work Made Sure by Both Oral and Written<br />

<strong>Messages</strong>.—The messages that God has given me<br />

have been communicated to his people both by<br />

word of mouth and in printed form. Thus my work<br />

has been made doubly sure.<br />
