Waste & Recycling
Waste & Recycling is an important part of the King’s
College London sustainability strategy. Our aim is to
increase the percentage of our recycled waste to
70%.
We want to help you make smart decisions about
what you consume on campus and how to get
the most of out it, before disposing of it in an
environmentally friendly way.
Reducing waste, reusing materials and products
and recycling are some of the most powerful ways
that students, staff and visitors can protect the
environment.
and for batteries, use the BatteryBack
Reduce waste by buying goods more efficiently. Think
before you buy and use items like the King's Keep Cup
instead of disposable coffee cups.
Reuse
Reuse in-house furniture and equipment with
schemes like Warp It via www.warp-it.co.uk/
company/kcl. Every year, thousands of students
move out of our halls of residence. We work in
partnership with local charities to ensure that the
vast majority of equipment left behind is reused.
Recycle your glass, paper, plaster, metal, cardboard
and empty food containers such as tins, cans
and tinfoil. Printer cartridges and batteries can
be recycled seperately in bespoke bins across
university campuses. Please contact ask@kcl.ac.uk
if you need to dispose of electrical waste. Speak
to your resources contract or lab manager about
disposal of clinical or hazardous waste.
Why is recycling important?
There are many good reasons for adding recycling to
your routine, ranging from a personal level to a global
advantage. Recycling your waste makes you more
responsible in the way you use and dispose of it. You
can save money for yourself and your university, as well
as saving the planet.
