Sustainability
The Sustainability Team is responsible for embedding sustainability across
university activities.
We monitor sustainable construction and refurbishment of university
property as well as acting as consultants for the day-to-day running of
the university, ensuring that we achieve the ISO14001 Energy Management
System.
From the university’s strategic Sustainabiility Policy to student and staff
engagement in the form of better access to sustainable forms of transport,
such as cycling faciltiies, we are involved in diverse areas of university life.
Aims
King’s has the target to reduce CO2 emissions by
43% from the 2005-6 baseline by 2020. We also
want to increase our recycling rate to 70%.
Student engagement
We work with King’s Careers to offer industryrelevent
internships in our department, as well as
volunteering opportunities throughout the year.
We also host events and collaborate with
enironmental and social enterprise societies.
Sustainability Champions
We run a scheme for staff members who work
in offices and labs across King’s to reduce our
environmental impact. We aim to have a champion
representing every area of the university.

The champions are provided with annual workbooks
and training in order that they are equipped to
create a sustainable working environment.
Each year we hold an awards ceremony, hosted by
the Principal, in which our champions are awarded
gold, silver or bronze for their achievements.

Similarly, we also run an Energy Champions scheme
specifically for Estates & Facilities staff members
who would like to take part in Energy Management
