mokenamessenger.com NEWS the Mokena Messenger | February 16, 2017 | 15 Police Reports Police: Man stole cigars from tobacco shop Wesley T. Yancey, 56, of 10643 Shilling Road in Frankfort, was charged Jan. 25 with retail theft after he allegedly stole 57 cigars, valued at $726.19, from a tobacco store in the 11200 block of W. Lincoln Highway during incidents that occurred Jan. 2 and Jan. 17. After coming into the police station on Jan. 31, Yancey reportedly returned seven of the cigars he allegedly stole. According to the report, Yancey told police he took cigars that were damaged and not fit for sale. Feb. 5 • Stephanie J. Bermudez, 20, of 1123 Oakland Ave. in Joliet, was charged with operating an uninsured vehicle, driving on a suspended driver’s license and improper lighting after police reportedly observed her driving in a black Chevrolet Cavalier with only one working headlight at night. After initiating a traffic stop, police discovered that her driver’s license was suspended and she did not have valid insurance on the vehicle. Jan. 30 • Abedelkarim Karan, 24, of 8936 Lynze Lane in Frankfort, was charged with possession of hypodermic needles and served an instate warrant after police reportedly responded to a customer of the Gas N’ Wash at 8810 W. 191st St. who was concerned about another driver. Police arrived at a blue Nissan Versa parked at a gas pump and observed Karan sleeping in the vehicle, according to the report. After speaking with the subject, police reportedly discovered that he had an active warrant for failure to appear in court. After searching Karan, police discovered a capped, apparently used syringe, according to the report. Karan allegedly possessed the syringe without a valid prescription. Jan. 26 • Christine A. Meyers, 27, of 17739 Ridgeland Ave. in Tinley Park, was charged with retail theft after she allegedly stole seven fourpack cases of Red Bull 8-ounce cans, valued at $52.60, from a convenience store in the 19100 block of La Grange Road in Mokena.
