Ron Turcotte is the race horse<br />
jockey that shook the world as the<br />
rider of the powerful horse<br />
S E C R E T A R I A T, winner of the<br />
U.S. Triple Crown in 1973.<br />
Tragically, July 13 th 1978, at the start of<br />
his race, Ron Turcottes’ career came<br />
to a horrific end following a tumble<br />
from his horse. This unfortunate<br />
incident left him paralyzed from the<br />
waist down. He was only 36 years old<br />
at the time.<br />
Ron Turcotte is not only the most<br />
famous jockey in Canadian history,<br />
but one of the most decorated<br />
athletes in Canada and one of the<br />
best jockeys of all time.<br />
Downtown Grand Falls features a<br />
magnificent monument honouring the<br />
legendary jockey and his career-long<br />
achievements.<br />
Ron Turcotte now lives on his ranch in<br />
Drummond near Grand Falls with his<br />
wife Gaetane. The Turcottes are the<br />
proud parents of four daughters and<br />
five grandchildren.<br />
