For many years, computer and video games have been the most dynamic cultural and<br />
media-based market in Germany, and growth in this market continued unabated in 2015. The<br />
continuous innovation and exceptional creativity in the games industry generates an endless<br />
stream of new products, platforms and market models. The turnover of computer and video<br />
games software in 2015 in Germany totaled 1.91 billion euros. These revenues are distributed<br />
over three core business fields:<br />
• Boxed games and downloads: sale of games for PC and consoles as well as mobile games<br />
• Online and browser games: expenditures for subscriptions and premium accounts<br />
• Downloadable content: expenditures for additional items / item selling<br />
MARKET VOLUME<br />
Revenues from computer and video games software<br />
totaled 1.91 billion euros on the German market in<br />
2015. With a share of 1.207 billion euros, the classic<br />
sale of physical or downloaded games (games for<br />
mobile consoles, smartphones & tablets included)<br />
still accounts for the lion’s share of revenues. Newer<br />
business models such as fees for subscriptions and<br />
premium accounts (online and browser games) or<br />
expenditures on game expansions and additional<br />
items (downloadable content) make up about 37<br />
