Lochwinnoch Arts Festival in partnership with
Renfrewshire Leisure and Paisley arts centre
will present Rapid Departure on Saturday

The surrounding area has been hit by a freak flood and the locals (the
audience) are guided to the safety of the Village Hall (McKillop!), the designated
Emergency Rest Centre. Environmental calamities are on the increase and
extreme weather conditions can arise at any moment. The question is, how
would we all cope? Plunged into the fraught world of the rural Rest Centre the
evacuees and officials grapple with the ever-deepening crisis both outside the
Hall – and in!
Right Lines can always be relied upon to make a drama out of a crisis. In this
evening of immersive comedy, our five characters are desperately trying to
keep their heads above water as the Emergency Plan is swept away before
their very eyes!
Over the last few years, Right Lines has deliberately pursued different styles
of theatre with the successful musical Whisky Kisses - the flagship production
at Pitlochry Festival Theatre in 2014 - and the award-nominated international
terrorism drama Be Silent or Be Killed in 2013.
Road Resurfacing - The resurfacing of Wheatlands Drive
in Kilbarchan which was planned for mid November was
postponed due to the recent heavy rain. The council has
advised me that this work has been rescheduled for early
in the new year, with the nature and timing of the work
involved weather dependent
Lochwinnoch Bridge - The council has also clarified the plan
for work on Lochwinnoch bridge.
The main points are the timing and timescale of the work,
and temporary provision for emergency vehicles and a
pedestrian bridge crossing.
It is anticipated that the construction work which will take
around 5 months will commence next May /June.
Kilbarchan Pipe Band Battle of the Somme Anniversary - At the most recent
meeting of Johnstone and Villages Local Area Committee, I was delighted
to recommend that the committee support the grant application from
Kilbarchan Pipe Band, to assist the band to attend the centenary anniversary
commemorations of the Battle of the Somme in July of next year.
The band is the only one in Scotland invited to the event, which will be one of
the most poignant moments of the 4 years of commemoration of the first world
war.
It is an honour for the band, the village of Kilbarchan, and Scotland to be
involved in this most important act of remembrance.
Mary Barbour - The unveiling of the Mary Barbour cairn in New Street Kilbarchan
took place on the 21 November.
Thanks to Kilbarchan Community Council, David Blair, the Reverend Stephen
Smith for their support of the event, and to those many community organisations
and individuals, who attended. A fitting tribute to a true visionary.
Christmas Lights - Thanks also to the respective Community Councils and
groups in Lochwinnoch and Kilbarchan for their work in arranging the Christmas
lights events which despite the dreadful weather gave both communities really
enjoyable evenings.

The new session begins on the 6 January with a Planning Meeting, followed on
the 20th by a review of the book Brooklyn by Colm Toibin, recently released at

Lochwinnoch SWI
We hope everyone has had a lovely Christmas and New
Year break and are looking forward to the 2016 half of our
syllabus.
The next meeting of Lochwinnoch SWI is on Wednesday 20 January at 7.30pm
in the McKillop Hall.
Caroline Stewart will be tantalising our taste buds with a demonstration of
Scottish Desserts, so forget about the New Year’s resolutions to lose weight
and come along and enjoy!
We look forward to welcoming members and visitors, particularly the new
members to have joined us this year.

Kilbarchan Parish Church
The Service of Union of Kilbarchan West and Kilbarchan West took place on
Tuesday 15 December, to form Kilbarchan Parish Church and at this service the
Rev Stephen Smith was inducted into the new charge.
All services of worship will now be in the church buildings off Steeple Square.
Sunday Services are at 11am and the Midweek Fellowship will meet in the
small hall on Wednesdays from 10.30am.
Please come along and join us at any of these services. You will be made most
welcome.
Crèche, Junior Church and FEWsion meet at 10.45am on a Sunday morning.
The Guild meets for its first meeting of the New Year on Tuesday 12 January
at 2.30pm. Mr Jack Glenny will tell us of his experiences of speaking at Burns
Suppers abroad.
On the Tuesday 26 January, we will hold a Candlelit Service.
