ADULTS<br />
• BOOK SALE - The Friends of the Maud Marks Library will hold their<br />
next book sale on Saturday, <strong>March</strong> 25 th at 10 AM until 4 PM. There<br />
is a large selection of hardback fiction and nonfiction, as well as<br />
children’s books and paperbacks. Come see all our insane bargains.<br />
All proceeds will benefit the library.<br />
• FREE FAMILY FILMS - Bring the whole family out to our family<br />
film festival this spring break. The week school is out, on Monday,<br />
<strong>March</strong> 13 th , Thursday, <strong>March</strong> 16 th and Friday <strong>March</strong> 17 th , at 3 PM<br />
we will be showing a different mystery film complete with popcorn.<br />
Unfortunately, we cannot print the titles here, but call the library or<br />
stop by for a complete list.<br />
• VOLUNTEER AT THE LIBRARY - Volunteer opportunities abound<br />
at the Maud Marks Library. Volunteers are needed to help shelve,<br />
count patrons and more. We will be holding our next volunteer orientation<br />
on Thursday, <strong>March</strong> 2 nd at 4:30 PM. Students should be in<br />
high school and must be able to commit to two hours twice a week.<br />

• FREE TAX ASSISTANCE - Every Monday and Friday through April<br />
18 th , AARP will be offering free tax assistance to elderly and low-income<br />
individuals from 10 AM to 2 PM.<br />
• YOGA CLASSES - You asked for it, you got it! The library hosts classes<br />
twice a month. Yoga can be a very relaxing and centering exercise<br />
program. Join us on Saturdays, <strong>March</strong> 4 th at 10 AM and <strong>March</strong> 18 th<br />
at 3 PM, as we learn about the benefits and basic how-to of yoga.<br />
Join us as we exercise our minds and bodies. Registration required.<br />
• GENEALOGY - Are you interested in learning more about your family’s<br />
past? The library is offering one-on-one instruction on how to<br />
use the FamilySearch.org website. These classes will take place every<br />
Wednesday at 10 AM. Learn more about how to get started looking<br />
into your family’s past and find out where you came from. Seating is<br />
extremely limited for this class.<br />
• TEEN TIME: SCRATCH CODING - Do you enjoy playing video games?<br />
Using the computer? Downloading apps? There’s a code for that!<br />
Join us Thursday, <strong>March</strong> 2 nd at 2:45 PM while we learn the basics<br />
of coding and computer programming using the Scratch Project<br />
developed by MIT.<br />
• TEEN TECH WEEK - You ready to make some robots? Join us on<br />
Thursday, <strong>March</strong> 9 th at 4:30 PM during Teen Tech Week when we work<br />
with Lego Mindstorms. Make and program your own Lego Mindstorm<br />
robot! This is a ticketed program. Tickets will be available at 4 PM<br />
the day of the program.<br />
• DIY CRAFTS: GLUE GUN DRAWING - This month we will be drawing…<br />
with glue! Join us on Tuesday, <strong>March</strong> 14 th at 2 PM as we make<br />
3D drawings using cardboard, hot glue and paint. Seating for this is<br />
extremely limited.<br />
• KATY MAKERSPACE - Did you know that the Katy area has its very<br />
own MakerSpace? We’ll be learning all about this special place for<br />
creators and inventors at the library on Tuesday, <strong>March</strong> 14 th at 7 PM.<br />
Harry Krueger will be here to give us an introduction to Katy Maker-<br />
Space and all you can do there. Makers of all ages and disciplines are<br />
encouraged to join us as we learn everything our new MakerSpace<br />
has to offer.<br />
• POWER OF ATTORNEY & DESIGNATION OF GUARDIANSHIP - Senior<br />
citizens and their family members are invited to join us for a new<br />
series at the library. Every 3 rd Friday of the month, experts will be<br />
here to discuss various topics pertinent to senior living. On <strong>March</strong> 17 th<br />
at 3 PM, we will be discussing power of attorney and designation of<br />
guardianship. Learn what happens when you are incapacitated and<br />
why it is important to have power of attorney and guardianship in<br />
place ahead of time. Come discover what kind of life is best for you<br />
or your loved one.<br />
• GREEN THUMB GARDENING - Is your Master Gardeners of Harris<br />
County will once again be bringing their Green Thumb series once<br />
a month where they will discuss various topics unique to gardening<br />
in the Houston area. This month, on <strong>March</strong> 18 th at 10 AM, learn all<br />
about planting, growing and the upkeep of roses. Seating is extremely<br />
limited for this class.<br />
• COLOR ME RELAXED - What is the newest way for adults to relax and<br />
have a good time? Coloring! The library now has an adult coloring<br />
hour on the 4 th Tuesday of every month at 2 PM. We color, chat,<br />
have a snack and listen to relaxing music. We will provide plenty of<br />
pages for coloring and colored pencils, although, you are more than<br />
welcome to bring your own.<br />
• FIRE SAFETY FOR ADULTS - Even adults need fire safety reminders<br />
once in a while. Tom Petty with the Harris County Fire Marshall’s office<br />
will be at the library on Tuesday, <strong>March</strong> 21 st at 3 PM to remind us<br />
what to do if a fire happens to us. This seminar, designed for older<br />
adults covers electrical and cooking safety, precautions when sleeping<br />
as well as slip and fall hazards, the importance of working smoke<br />
alarms, having and practicing a fire exit plan and more. Come meet<br />
Cinder, a trained K-9 dog who specializes in helping teach fire safety.<br />
• TIMELESS TRAVELERS: NOAA OCEAN DISCOVERY DAY - Seniors 55+<br />
are invited to join the library’s Timeless Travelers for a FREE trip to<br />
the NOAA lab in Galveston for Ocean Discovery Day, courtesy of the<br />
Friends of Maud Marks Library and Precinct Three Transportation.<br />
The bus departs the library on Saturday, <strong>March</strong> 25 th at 8 AM. Seating<br />
is extremely limited. Registration begins <strong>March</strong> 3 rd .<br />
• BOOK DISCUSSION CLUBS - The Library hosts book clubs that meet<br />
monthly. The Evening Book Club normally meets on the second<br />
Monday of the month at 7 PM. The Afternoon Book Club meets on<br />
the second Thursday of the month at 1 PM.<br />
• JUST DESSERTS MYSTERY BOOK CLUB - Meetings held the third<br />
Wednesday of the month at 2 PM. You are encouraged to bring your<br />
favorite dessert to eat while we discuss whether our villains get their<br />
just desserts.<br />
• COMPUTER CLASSES - The library offers a variety of computer classes<br />
each month. You must know how to use a mouse and a keyboard.<br />
Seating for this is extremely limited. Registration is required. To see<br />

CHILDREN<br />
•WEDNESDAY WONDERS - Let imaginations soar as you explore the<br />
world around you with crafts and activities on Wednesdays at 4:45<br />
PM, for ages 6-11. These programs normally last about one hour. All<br />
