CELEBRATING
volunteering and
philanthropy in the City
CHALLENGE THE
LORD MAYOR
BRINGING THE
COMMUNITY
TOGETHER
The Don Restaurant took over St Swithins Lane
to host The Long Long Lunch in partnership with
three of the City’s best restaurants; Coq d’Argent,
1 Lombard Street and Hispania. Generously
supported by some of their regular suppliers, the
event started at 12.30pm in St. Stephen Walbrook
Church, with a glass of Charles Heidsieck
champagne, canapés and music, followed by the
Long Long Lunch itself - a splendid three-course
meal for over 100 people with each restaurant
taking responsibility for one course. The diners
also enjoyed wines from Trinity Hill, Nespresso
coffee and macaroons from Ladurée all whilst
being served by enthusiastic catering students
from Carshalton College.
On City Giving Day 2016, the Lord Mayor
visited businesses around the City where
he was challenged to cycle the length of the
Panama Canal (as part of a team on a static
cycle!), to play Operation watched by
a London Air Ambulance crew member and
to take part in a table tennis match against
two boys from Greenhouse Sport, a youth
sport development charity. Why don’t you
challenge the Lord Mayor this year, to be in
with a chance of being part of his City Giving
Day tour?
CITY A.M. AND MAGGIE’S
Maggie’s provides free practical, emotional
and social support to people living with cancer
and their family and friends. Built on the NHS
grounds, one of the newest additions to
Maggie’s will be the Centre at St Bartholomew’s
Hospital opening November 2017.
City A.M. are providing over £1m of support
for the new Centre at Barts which will be the
biggest Maggie’s Centre to date with over
30,000 visits predicted each year. Maggie’s
Barts will provide support to people affected
by cancer from across the City and the seven
surrounding boroughs through professional staff
offering psychological support, financial advice,
access to information, or simply a space to
relax and enjoy a cup of tea.
AS SIMPLE
AS BAKING
A CAKE
In 2016, employees at companies across the City
channelled their inner Mary Berry to produce an
array of mouth-watering cakes, raising hundreds
of pounds for their nominated charities.
City Giving Day provided National Australia Bank
a great opportunity to reflect upon and celebrate
our community program and longstanding
relationship with St Joseph’s Hospice (STJH). The
fundraising efforts centred on a bake sale and
raffle, which helped raise more than £1700.
GO RED!
New for 2016, the #GoRed campaign provided
a focus for City Giving Day, as well as making it
more visible. More than half the businesses taking
part encouraged their staff to wear something red
or organised red themed events. It really can be
as simple as wearing a red tie, dress or accessory
to baking red cupcakes or dying hair red.
We want this to be even bigger in 2017!
“Wearing red and not the usual dark
business clothes really united and
changed the atmosphere of our office.”
Clare Silverton, Corporate Communications
Manager, National Australia Bank
