Donor Report 2006/07 Scholars’ Luncheon – bringing scholars and donors together There are many ways to say thank you, but the most meaningful and effective way is to say it in person. That is what the Scholars’ Luncheon is all about. This annual event recognizes the academic achievements of the University’s scholars while providing an opportunity for both students and university faculty and staff to personally thank scholarship donors. Donors of named endowed and/or expendable scholarships are invited to this event as well as named bursaries and awards. Scholars’ Luncheon continues to be a very successful event, with over 300 scholars and donors attending in the fall of 2006. The date of the 2007 event is November 22. Students at MSVU are committed to giving to their University and their community. Each year, students demonstrate new and creative ways to raise money… and it’s working! These are just some of the ways students are making a difference on campus. The Students’ Union have been generously giving to the Capital Campaign, Building Tomorrow Together since April of 2000. Students have demonstrated their understanding of the value of giving – a truly extraordinary accomplishment. This is the largest gift to date to the Capital Campaign. On March 28, 2007, students in the Applied Human Nutrition and Family Studies & Gerontology programs took a classy approach to fundraising. They played host to a vintage fashion featuring attire designed, sewn and collected by former MSVU students and faculty. In doing so, the students were able to showcase the talent, professionalism and the growth of the Home Economics program over the last eighty years while raising money to establish their own bursary. The event was lots of fun and a huge success, raising over $6000. If you missed the fashion show, but would like to make a gift toward the 80th Anniversary Endowed Bursary Fund, please call 902-457-6470. The Student Alumnae Association donated $1 from every Exam Survival Kit sold to the MSVAA Bursary fund. Charitable giving also includes the gift of time. Students volunteer many hours to assist their peers at the Food Resource Centre and the Diversity Centre. Charity begins at home, but each year MSVU students have committed to raising money for worthy causes in the community. Charities such as Cystic Fibrosis and the Children’s Wish Foundation are just two of the many organizations MSVU students support throughout the academic year. The spirit of giving is a part of university life and students are making a difference. Folia Montana 21
