1. Koh Lipe / Satun
Koh Lipe is a small island in the Adang-Rawi Archipelago of the
Strait of Malacca, in Satun Province of southwest Thailand, close
to the Malaysian border. The Thai name is transliterated in many
different ways into English.
Lipe island was first discovered by the Chao Ley (or Sea Gypsies)
who would travel from island to island in search of the best fishing
in the areas to feed themselves and their tribes. The Chao Ley
eventually found a permanent home on Koh Lipe and were given
a grant to settle on the island’s eastern beach (Koh Lipe Sunrise
Beach) and have since remained there.
2. Phi Phi Islands / Krabi
Phi Phi Islands are a main attraction to Krabi and Phuket Island,
and are widely considered to be amongst the most beautiful islands
in the world, recently rocking to fame with the filming of the movie “The
Beach” on Maya Bay. Despite the high number of visitors here, the
island is still quite stunning, and the surrounding ocean and islands
are still spectacular, although Maya Bay does get abit overcrowded
during Peak Season.
Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Ley are the largest, and most well known
of the Phi Phi Islands. The main island of Phi Phi Don has accommodation,
restaurants, dive centers, and a very vibrant nightlife!
The other islands are part of the National Park and can only be
seen on tours.
3. Similan Islands /
Phang Nga
Koh Similan is the largest island. The sea
in the area has an average depth of 60 feet.
Underwater it is full of rock formations and
coral reefs in several shapes and forms,
resembling such things as deer, leaves,
brains, and mushrooms.
Above the water are found many diverse
species such as the Nicobar pigeon, mangrove
monitor lizards, flying fox and more.
4. Koh Mai Thon / Phuket
Located southeast of Phuket, Koh Mai
Thon is like a dream; an island famous for
its beautiful coral reefs, crystal clear water,
powdery beach and laid-back ambience as
great as the Maldives. The island is ideal for
diving, swimming and sunbathing.
A one-day trip is also provided by travel agencies,
with boats leaving from Rawai Beach.
5. Koh Phayam / Ranong
Koh Phayam - probably the most beautiful
island in Thailand
This gorgeous little island is truly the undiscovered
pearl of the Andaman Sea with long
white sandy beaches, clear blue sea, coral
reefs, it’s the perfect place to really get away
from it all. The two main bays are Aow Yai ,
the sunset bay, and Aow Khao Kwai -
( Buffalo bay ).Both bays have long curving
white sandy beaches. If you get bored of the
beach life then there’s always the inland
experience. Ko Phayam island has lots of
good mini hikes into the hills, forests and
jungle.
