beauty of the earth that God
has provided. and it helps you

helpers. In a sense, our lives can
be compared to gardening.

Tucked away in downtown Lake Charles,
is a magical gardening shop waiting to
be explored. Donna Dixson is a local
resident of Lake Charles and owner of
“Garden of Eden.” Donna, a retired nurse,
has a passion and heart to bring color
to gardening. One of eight children,
she remembers being introduced to
gardening by her mother. She worked
their vegetable garden along the fence
line of their home. Her beautiful shop
was constructed by the help of her
husband, Jessie Dixson, and Jesus- her
two biggest supporters. Jessie is retired
and spends time with Donna at the shop
almost daily. He has been supportive of
Donna’s dream for gardening for thirty
years.
At Garden of Eden, you will find color,
life, love, and passion as soon as you walk
through the doors. Donna truly cares
about her customers and offers a free
one-on-one consultation to speak to you
about your visions for your gardening.
She has live plants and offers many
ideas for landscaping. Donna can have
someone go to your home and assess
your gardening area, and help bring
your ideas to life. Her upcoming services
will offer you the opportunity to host a
gardening class, available for all ages,
that teaches how to prepare soil, plant
flowers, vegetables and herbs,
Donna says, “Gardening helps relieve
stress. It helps one to see the beauty of
the earth that God has provided. and
it helps you recognize self as one of
His helpers. In a sense, our lives can be
compared to gardening.”
She adds, “Our lives come from a seed
and that seed grows and develops into
something, even when we have yet to
see the fruit. Digging in the soil helps
with anxiety, as well. When you dig in
the soil, it releases a new you. It teaches
you patience and how to wait. When you
make compost, which is decayed matter,
you take the decay in your mind and
release it into the ground. Only then, can
you look forward to something beautiful
and new.”
Garden of Eden offers a variety of other
products including skin and hair butters,
scented and essential oils, which she
formulates herself and instructs you on
how to use them. She also offers scented
candles, diffusers, apparel, jewelry, goat’s
milks, lotions, soaps, beard oil and butter.
