<strong>Polish</strong> Film institute Programmes<br />

1. Film Production<br />

2010 quota: 88 million Pln ( ~ 22 million eur)<br />

This programme is aimed at supporting film production<br />

at all stages of the process – from developing the screenplay<br />

to the actual shooting and post-production. Support is given<br />

to <strong>Polish</strong> films and international co-productions (including<br />

those with a minority <strong>Polish</strong> partner), auteur films, directorial<br />

debuts, films based on scripts awarded in competitions<br />

of the <strong>Polish</strong> Film Institute, and films that were co-financed<br />

by the <strong>Polish</strong> Film Institute at the development stage.<br />

Funding through the Film Production Programme is<br />

available to: producers of full-length films (feature,<br />

documentary and animated; more than 70 minutes in length)<br />

intended primarily for theatrical release; producers of midlength<br />

documentaries (40-70 minutes) and animated films<br />

(15-40 minutes); and producers of short documentaries<br />

(under 40 minutes) and animated films (under 15 minutes).<br />

An increase in funding is available to the producers of films<br />

awarded at film festivals in Poland and abroad.<br />

Funding for a co-production can be increased by up to<br />

35%, as long as the total amount will comply with<br />

the percentage limitations. The percentage limitations for<br />

international co-productions are calculated based on the total<br />

financial participation of the <strong>Polish</strong> partner, although<br />

in the case of films with a special significance for <strong>Polish</strong><br />

culture or for promoting Poland, the General Director of the<br />

<strong>Polish</strong> Film Institute can lower the percentage limit to cover<br />

the whole budget. In the case of films with a <strong>Polish</strong> citizen as<br />

director, screenwriter and lead actor, cinematographer or<br />

production designer, the percentage limits are calculated<br />

based on the whole budget. Funding awarded to a <strong>Polish</strong><br />

producer with minority shares in an international coproduction<br />

cannot exceed 2 million PLN ( ~ 500,000 EUR) for<br />

a European full-length feature film, and 1.5 million PLN<br />

( ~ 375,000 EUR) for a non-European full-length feature film.<br />

Among co-productions with <strong>Polish</strong> producers as minority<br />

shareholders, priority is given to full-length projects. The Film<br />

Production Programme has four objectives.
