educated <strong>to</strong> degree level or above <strong>in</strong><br />

the North, and we are one of the<br />

UK’s strongest perform<strong>in</strong>g regions<br />

Our talented workforce is<br />

complemented each year by<br />

thousands of graduates from nearby<br />

universities. Two of these – the<br />

University of Manchester and the<br />

University of Liverpool – are among<br />

AMBITIONS FOR THE FUTURE ARE SO BOLD.<br />

By 2040, the region is on course for a £50 billion economy,<br />

supported by 127,000 new jobs and 139,000 new homes,<br />

with a GVA per head that will be 120 per cent of the<br />

national average.<br />

<strong>The</strong> region’s economy is already built on solid<br />

foundations. Equivalent <strong>in</strong> scale <strong>to</strong> cities such as<br />

Birm<strong>in</strong>gham and Leeds, it boasts a skilled workforce<br />

attracted by high-quality hous<strong>in</strong>g, schools, cultural offer<strong>in</strong>g<br />

and natural environments.<br />

It is no surprise, therefore, that some of the world’s<br />

biggest companies have already recognised <strong>Cheshire</strong> and<br />

Warr<strong>in</strong>g<strong>to</strong>n’s ‘quality of place’: Bentley Mo<strong>to</strong>rs,<br />

AstraZeneca, Tata, Vauxhall and Barclays are among the<br />

blue-chip names with a base <strong>in</strong> the region.<br />

<strong>The</strong> success of these bus<strong>in</strong>esses is supported by the<br />

region’s excellent national and <strong>in</strong>ternational transport<br />

connections. <strong>The</strong> M6 and M56 mo<strong>to</strong>rways provide a quick,<br />

<strong>Cheshire</strong> and Warr<strong>in</strong>g<strong>to</strong>n’s connectivity will only improve<br />

<strong>in</strong> the com<strong>in</strong>g years. <strong>The</strong> UK government’s commitment <strong>to</strong><br />

High Speed 2 (HS2) is a huge mark of confidence <strong>in</strong> the<br />

region’s potential. It will extend the benefits of high speed<br />

rail <strong>to</strong> 1.5 million people across <strong>Cheshire</strong> and North Wales,<br />

reduc<strong>in</strong>g their travel time <strong>to</strong> London by an hour.<br />

<strong>The</strong> project is the country’s largest <strong>in</strong>frastructure<br />

development and gives bus<strong>in</strong>esses across <strong>Cheshire</strong> and<br />

Warr<strong>in</strong>g<strong>to</strong>n further opportunities <strong>to</strong> develop and grow.<br />

<strong>The</strong> regional rail hub at Crewe will also deliver long-term<br />

economic benefits <strong>to</strong> people and bus<strong>in</strong>esses across the<br />

region, and help <strong>to</strong> cont<strong>in</strong>ue Crewe’s development <strong>in</strong><strong>to</strong> a<br />

high-growth city.<br />

<strong>Cheshire</strong> and Warr<strong>in</strong>g<strong>to</strong>n boasts a large and grow<strong>in</strong>g<br />

bus<strong>in</strong>ess base, with bus<strong>in</strong>ess density rates well above the<br />

national average, from high-profile <strong>in</strong>ternational<br />

companies, <strong>to</strong> well-established medium-sized firms and<br />

dynamic small bus<strong>in</strong>esses.<br />

<strong>The</strong> region is particularly strong <strong>in</strong> key <strong>in</strong>dustry sec<strong>to</strong>rs<br />

such as advanced, high-value eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g, energy, and<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>Cheshire</strong> Science Corridor and Constellation will both<br />

of West <strong>Cheshire</strong>, Wirral, and north east Wales. Advanced<br />

manufactur<strong>in</strong>g is at the heart of the Mersey Dee Alliance.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Atlantic Gateway, spread<strong>in</strong>g from Deeside and<br />

Merseyside through <strong>Cheshire</strong> and Warr<strong>in</strong>g<strong>to</strong>n <strong>to</strong><br />

Manchester, is an ambitious strategy <strong>to</strong> deliver growth not<br />

previously seen <strong>in</strong> the UK outside of London – <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g<br />

250,000 new jobs by 2030 and £14 billion of new<br />

<strong>in</strong>vestment. Both Warr<strong>in</strong>g<strong>to</strong>n and Chester are set <strong>to</strong> ga<strong>in</strong><br />

from the Atlantic Gateway’s impressive growth and<br />

vibrancy.<br />

A further £1 billion of it is be<strong>in</strong>g sought by Growth Track<br />

360, which is campaign<strong>in</strong>g for strategic improvements <strong>to</strong><br />

the North Wales and <strong>Cheshire</strong> rail network that could<br />

create 70,000 jobs over the next 20 years.<br />

Muse Developments’ City Place scheme, developed <strong>in</strong><br />

conjunction with <strong>Cheshire</strong> West and Chester Council, is<br />

fast becom<strong>in</strong>g the most important new commercial<br />

areas and a complex architecturally designed green roof<br />

supported on bespoke glulam timber beams.<br />

<strong>The</strong> new <strong>in</strong>terchange is <strong>in</strong>tegral <strong>to</strong> the city centre’s core<br />

highways system so GRAHAM has worked closely with the<br />

local authority <strong>to</strong> m<strong>in</strong>imise disruption <strong>to</strong> operational bus<br />

services, city centre traffic, pedestrians, local bus<strong>in</strong>esses<br />

and residents.<br />

<strong>The</strong> new <strong>in</strong>terchange – funded through the Local Growth<br />

Deal – is due <strong>to</strong> open <strong>in</strong> early 2017, enabl<strong>in</strong>g the closure of<br />

the exist<strong>in</strong>g bus <strong>in</strong>terchange at Pr<strong>in</strong>cess Street. It paves<br />

the way for work <strong>to</strong> commence on the £300m Northgate<br />

development <strong>in</strong> Chester city centre, which will deliver<br />

500,000 sq. ft. of retail, restaurant and leisure facilities,<br />

creat<strong>in</strong>g more than 1,000 jobs.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Northgate scheme is a priority development for<br />

Chester that will play an important part <strong>in</strong> deliver<strong>in</strong>g<br />

ambitions <strong>to</strong> double the size of the area’s economy by<br />

2040.<br />

Chester Northgate will transform the city centre through<br />

<strong>The</strong> retail-led, open streetscape, mixed use scheme is<br />

theatre and cultural centre, will revitalise the city centre’s<br />

retail offer and shopp<strong>in</strong>g experience, also provid<strong>in</strong>g<br />

around 70 retail s<strong>to</strong>res, cafes and restaurants, <strong>to</strong>gether<br />

with a new market hall, over 800 shoppers’ car park<strong>in</strong>g<br />

spaces and more than 70 residential apartments.<br />

Construction of the first phase of the scheme, for which<br />

plann<strong>in</strong>g permission was granted <strong>in</strong> September 2016, will<br />

commence <strong>in</strong> 2018, with completion of Chester Northgate<br />

scheduled for late 2021.<br />
