overview of Xmedia suite workflow tools
The Xmedia Suite template-based graphics workflow tools are highly flexible to address the different graphics
demands of live production graphics, channel branding and promotion. The tools allow different users across
a facility, or network, to share a common central asset repository and authoring tool set. The comprehensive
applications offer asset management, graphics creation, content editing, and real-time data management, as well
as work-order management and playout control.
Xmedia Server: centralized archive
P The Xmedia Server allows all branding assets to be ingested once, centrally
archived and automatically moved to a range of graphics devices.
P Assets can be managed using rule-based publishing to automatically and
intelligently distribute the assets, thereby preventing a wide range of on-air
presentation errors.
P The Xmedia Server manages and distributes live data from external sources to
graphics processors
Xplorer: asset management
P Xplorer is a media management interface for managing content on an Xmedia
Server and on graphics processors
P Used for ingest of content from external storage devices, and offers file import
conversion
P Xplorer offers viewing, moving, and deletion of content on an Xmedia Server and
on individual processors
Xstudio: template authoring
P Xstudio is a drag-and-drop authoring system for creating and previewing
television graphics
P Allows design of elaborate templates with advanced timeline features
P During template creation, Xstudio automatically produces an associated soft
control panel plus data forms for business logic and data source reading
Xbuilder: template population + playlist building
P Xbuilder allows users to populate the variable fields within graphics templates to
create pages
P Pages can be pre-prepared semi-automatically, using an export from the traffic or
scheduling system
P Pages can also be populated fully automatically at air time by directly reading and
delivering data from the traffic and scheduling system
P Xbuilder is also used for building time of day, or sequenced, playlists for complex
branding and promotional graphics sequences controlled by Xplay
Xpanel: playout control
P Xpanel is a ‘soft’ control panel which provides highly intuitive operation of
multiple channels
P Panels are created automatically during template design process, and can be
customized to address specific tasks
P Supports full breadth of graphics capabilities
Xplay: media event sequencer
P The Xplay media event sequencer drives the playout of complex branding and
promotional graphics sequences
P The playlist loads and takes templates and pages to-air
P Fully automated, graphics sequences can be previewed ahead of airing with
Xplay’s graphics preview window
Xnews: NRCS graphics plug-in
P Xnews is a MOS-compliant Newsroom Control System (NRCS) plug-in which offers
a high level of control over graphics content to journalists
P By using Xnews, journalists can access pre-prepared Xmedia Suite templates and
image libraries from their NRCS to create story graphics, in just a fraction of the
time it would take to create original graphics
P Xnews is supported by AP ENPS, Avid iNews, and Omnibus, and is available as a
