asset management
Graphical assets are ingested onto the Xmedia
Server for archiving. Assets can be managed using
rule-based publishing to intelligently distribute the
assets, thereby preventing a wide range of on-air
presentation errors. The Xmedia Server also manages
and distributes live graphics data from external
feeds to the Vertigo XG graphics processors.
Template authoring
Graphics templates are created by the graphics team
in advance using Xstudio, along with a database of
supporting images so that news story graphics can
be built quickly using the templates. The templates
can combine data-driven graphics, animations, DVE
effects and audio controls. Built-in business logic
can control graphics according to data, such as
arrow colors for financial graphics.
Graphics preparation
Journalists create graphics to support their stories
using Xnews, a NRCS plug-in, which allows fast
access to templates and image libraries from within
the NRCS application (see page 22).
Graphics distribution
Pre-prepared graphics pages are sent to the Xmedia
Server for archiving and distribution to the Vertigo
XG processors. Templates for live data are pushed to
the Vertigo XG processors, ready to be populated.
The NRCS sends scheduling information to the
Xplay media event sequencer, which controls the
playout of complex graphics sequences.
Xplay recalls graphics pages, and drives dynamic
news sequences, with live data mapped to the
appropriate graphic template fields.
