Acknowledgement 

The special thank goes to Mr. Alvin Yap and Mr. Kiefer Cher. They 

truly helped me go through the tough internship program. The 

working environment and co-operation is high appreciated and will 

never forget this experience. This project that I had assign to do 

were highly interesting and educative. This internship helped me 

in understanding more about working in a real society. Thus, this 

internship program has made me realize the value of working 

together as a team and be open minded to accept each other 

idea. The challenge on this internship is I need to be prepare my 

mental and physical every minute when ever my work get rejected 

to redesign and new task that are rushing to be done. The three 

months long internship program has give me a lot of opportunity 

to work in different settings and exposed me to interact with 

different kinds of people. The working environment in the 

PENCILBOX SDN BHD was highly challenging and inspiring. I am 

highly appreciated to all members of the office who able to 

helped and guides me during my internship program. This internship 

program was a lesson must to be learned before I working for the 

real work. Last but not the least, this internship program really 

makes me to be more independent and be prepared for my real 

graphic designer work in future.

Projects 

01.Hitachi Mother’s & Parent day Cover. 

The first project I been assigned is design a magazine cover 

for Hitachi Mother day and Parent day. The director is our 

of idea to design for magazine cover. I need design few 

example of diffrent style of cover for the compnay. There for 

here is my few ideas that I purpose to the company. 

(The first brief about the 

magazine cover that cilent 

wan’t. Don’t show any company 

product and bring out the family 

and motherly feel.) 

There for I design this cover for 

Mother’s Day. By showing 

lovely mom and the daughter 

smiling to the aduince. Simple 

and clean cover make this 

magazine look lovely and all 

about mother’s day.

This is my second idea for 

mother’s day cover. This cover 

layout is showing the wonderful 

memory of mother with family. 

Every frame showing the 

beautiful moment of mother with 

the fmaily. Every picture telling 

diffrent beauty of motherly 

love. 

The third design is for parent 

day. The cover show a big frame 

of happy family with big smile 

along with the tagline I wrote 

which is “Every moment is 

special with family. Because the 

company dont have copy writer, 

they want pratice the designer 

to have a copy writing skills. 

There for designer need provide 

own word for the cover.

02.Hitachi Raya TV Ads 

The company get picked to pin 2 diffrent ideas for HItachi 

Raya TV Ads. I been assigned to handle one of the idea that 

need totally diffrent from the creative director idea. There 

for the creative director is very busy that time. I been 

assigned to help him make research about the current famous 

Malaysia actor that are suitablet for the Raya TV ads.

These is the requiremnt for the Hitachi Raya Ads that I need to 

prepare fot the company to purpose to the cilent: 

1.Mask head (along with a tagline for this coming Raya that 

will represent Hitachi) 

2. Story board (along with all story linefor each actors and the 

visual of the TV ads) 

3. Actor (I need make research about who should I choice to act 

in the TV ads and along with reseach and reasons. 

4. Poster with logo and the actor I choice. 

02.1 Hitachi Raya TV Ads 

This is my semi final draft for 

the mask head. Cause I lost 

the previous draft. This mask 

head is still need to be 

change abit require from my 

creative director. I choose 

the tagline “Senyum di Raya” 

for the TV ads. Bacause I 

want bring the funny and 

happy side that will happen 

when Raya.

This is the final version of 

the mask head I designed. I 

using a casual front mixed 

with Raya feel front to bring 

out the theme of funny and 

happiness feeling. The 

creative director approve 

and like the design and 

asking what front I used. 


In the same time, while i design the mask head, I need to 

preapre the story board and decision who that should act in 

the TV Ads. There for since my idea is about Funny and 

happiness, I decided to use Malaysia famous youtubers. And 

the company approve my purpose. The company sugegsted me 

few youtuber that I should make research about them and make 

a chart to show the company and cilent about the famous level 

of the youtubers. First my idea was finding malay youtuber but 

the company suggest famous youtubers.

The company picked this youtubers, Therefor the company assigned 

me to photoshop their face into the malay girls. Bacause company 

request my story board and line need to be very diffrent. There for 

my story line can be more funny. On the left is the finaly outcome 

for my mask head with the youtubers. i designed it all green is to 

fix the Raya feel and using 3D banner to show the young theme. 

This poster is to fix the fun and happniess theme. 


After that I need prepare the visual and the story line. First the 

company assigned me to photoshop three random Malay girls 

represent the youtbers in three diffrent senario/background. This 

is the first visual. I need to go thorugh a lot picture to find a 

prefect match for face impression to make them look like they 

gossip to each other.And the photoshop them in a background.

too many.

The company dont have any copy writer, there for i need to 

prepare my own story line to features my sotyr board. Along 

creating name for actor and story for three diffrent story.

First Story (Refregirator) 

Story Scene (Market) 1 

Story starting with 3 women greeting each other. (Along mixture languages of 

Malay and English) Kak Zinah start a conversation about tired been a housewife 

due to the reason preparing family meal and most tired is to come market every 

day to buy fresh vegetable and fruit. Kak Tabilah also agree with it and complaint 

about the vegetable and fruit easy get rotting can’t keep long is refrigerator. Is so 

exhausting. Kak Hisah laughing say she have been long time not doing this. Other 

two dramatically acting shock and wondering why. Kak Hisah proudly say that

her husband is doing her jobs and only come twice a week to market. Other two 

making this situation as big issue. Accuse must be the husband done something 

bad therefor try to act nice cover the mistake. Kak Hisah also been brain wash by 

them and intensely start worry. (She curiously say no wonder nowadays keep 

heard the husband saying a name Hita and always compliment about her. “The 

way Hita look tall, big and more and most important always keep the food fresh 

and nicely” saying with tearing voice) The other two additional shock after 

hearing this and saying Hita must have been using black magic to the husband in 

the food to make it fresh and nice. Lastly Kak Hisah say “one day she found out 

that Hita is nick name of a” …………End) _ Refregirator picture come out. 

Second Story (Washing Machine) 

Story Scene (Cloth Store) 2 

Story starting with 3 women shopping for new cloth for coming Raya. Kak 

Tabilah and Zinah was complaint about how exhausting when Raya washing a lot 

of cloth and need to wash many times. Family member keep change cloth after go 

out visit friend and sibling due to hot weather and sweating. Kak Zinah say even 

the maid also complaint about it and giving the angry tired face. Suddenly Kak 

Hisah laughing and says she is not worry about it issue. She says “I not so relax 

when Raya, washing cloth once a day even I has five children.” (berapa kilo pun 

tak compliant) Other two was curious what is her secret. Kak Hisah say she got a 

helper that never complaint and wash cloth even huge among. The other two was

intensely wan to know where she gets the helper/ maid from by asking a lot 

question like which country she from and how much u pay her a month. Lastly 

Kak Hisah say she only pay once for life time and from Japan. Even the 

helper/maid name is cute called Tachi. ~ (Beli terus la, tak payar bayar lama, dari 

Japan) Other two was like ( Gayanya kamu beli terus, dari Japan mustilah 

MALAH maid itu…….) _Washing machine picture come out. 

Third Story (Air Conditioner) 

Story Scene (Air Conditioner) 3 

Story starting with 3 women having brunch. Kak Tabilah and Kak Zinah was 

complaining about their husband keep stalking them and like to follow them go 

everywhere in the house. They feel no freedom after married and finally can have 

time with the friend without husband. Suddenly Kak Hisah say this is nice to have 

husband like to follow them everywhere. The other two was shock and 

dramatically worry about what have happen to Kak Hisah married life. Kak HIsah 

says her husband nowadays don’t like go out with her shopping and even in the 

house only like spend more time in living room. Worst part sometimes early 

morning and late night she realizes her husband will run out the room and sleep at 

living room. The other two asking her like ( kamu ada bagi dah?) Kak Hisah sad 

voice blaming maybe is her fault not wearing nice cloth at home or she getting

older and causing the husband don’t like her. She also says sometimes heard the 

husband calling a name Chi Chi in living room and say she is understand him 

more and know what he want to feel. The other two so dramatically react say wan 

go to the house find the husband solve this issue. Lastly Kak Hisah say she found 

out actually Chi Chi is………………..)_ Air Conditioner picture come out.

03. Kollektion Book Cover 

The cilent had request the company to redesign the book cover, 

and the company assiged me to design few sample that diffrent 

style compare to the company designed. Below are the rejected 

design from the cilent that the company designed.

This is all that I had designed and rejected cover. Everytime 

rejected from the cilent I need design more sample to let the 

cilent choose. I need design two cover, which home appliances and 

kitchen appliances covers.

I keep asking the company about the cilent breif what they want 

for cover, but the cilent say they also dont know what they want, 

so I need keep design till the cilent think is right.

The creactive director also will send his designed cover along with 

mine design to cilent to pick, still rejected. And this process had 

been keep going on for two month.

And suddenly the cilent changed his mind, request to design the 

cover with their products on it. Previously the cilent say dont want 

see any product of them becuase is too normal and bored.

In the same times, I also doing handling other project. But let go 

through this first, all is my own idea. And the company already 

give up design and pass the project to let me handle deisng. The 

company will just give opinion to ask me change this and that.

And finally cilent like the design on the left hand side, but still 

asking me for few changing like background and colour changing, 

all the picture is all i photshoped from cilent picture, not orginal 

look like this.

Cilent requested to use wood material background, still cilent 

keep giving alot suggestion to ask us to test test the diffrent 

wood colour.

Even till I finish internship, the cilent still havent decide which one 

to use.

04. X-Core Bootcamp 

While I keep redesign the book cover, in the same time company 

give me handle another project which is X-Core bootcamp. I need 

design few logo samples for for the cilent to choice, and bussiness 

cards and banners. Below are all the logos i designd for cilent to 

choose.

CIlent picked this logo design, and i continues deisng bussiness 

card and banner for this project. 

Below are the banner design, according to the company said, 

client picked the middle one. But still need change some design 

abit.

is I add in for the project, company dint provide any word, and

I been assigned to design bussiness card for this cilent. No 

requestment. I decide to using dark blue as the main colour 

because it related to the client logo.

The company assigned me to design a poster for the company 

grand opening. And the company picked right hand side, but in the 

end not using just use my concept to design anohter similair poster.

The company assigned me to design layout for their website and I 

purpose them after effect video. Then they ask me make this video. 

The company know nothing about affter effect asked me alot fancy 

effect. Therefor i puspose buy a plug in and I edit and add some

The company assigend me to arrange nicely all their previous work 

and place it mock up form. So the company can place it at their 

website pages. The company only give me all the raw file, and i 

need to rearrange it and place it one by one for each work in 

diffrent kind of mock up.

4. 

Tasks 

As a intern work at PENCILBOX, my responsible for daily tasks is 

same everyday. Once i reach office I unlock the door and go in to 

the office at 10, and most of time no one will be at office. 

Because other people may go out meet client, so I will check my 

company intern email for new brief for new project and rejected 

design and feedback from the client. After checked the email, I 

will continues my other project that I need to finish it. 

Normally some project I wil take only few hours to finish it and 

send to the company to check like logo design, poster, bussiness 

card and others. There for company will keep send me new project 

to do it and sometimes just let me touch up other project. I don’t 

do draft normally just start design it, because the company want 

it fast. The company like to give few project for in same times, 

because they say when I had no idea for this project then do 

others first and when got idea already go back and do agian. This 

is the company practise. 

The company I intern for only have two designer at the office and 

a marketing guy. My task is to help another designer seperate his 

work log, and the company will mostly give me small project and 

redesign work to do it.

Reflection 

These 3 month internship I leaerned a lot about how to be really 

independent. The company had show me the real world of a 

designer working life. The internship programe are the foundation 

of real working life experince before I step in working life. These 

internship is tough and loneliness but all the hard work I done 

make me see through of real designer life. Working for a company 

that not appreciate your hard work is like wasting your time and 

effort. 

All the experince and lesson that I learned from this intership, I 

will never ever forget. I will use all this memorable experince as 

my lesson for future.
