communities. For most I believe
its just easier to view life,
rather than to experience it. Its
not easy to live up to others
expectations, or feel the pain
when they dont live up to
yours. You dont have to deal
with emotions, you dont have
to even be you. You can post
the happiest pictures and cry
all day, whos going to know.
Sounds great to a lot of
people; complete and total
anoniminity and individual
expression but at the end of
the day you have to ask
yourself who even cares..... we
have all just become a picture
on the screen. Instead of
expanding our hearts and mind
with all the access we have to
others in the world we have
narrowed our hearts with fear
and anxiety of actual human
contact and we have lost our
sense of community, of caring
about others and them caring
about us, in fact we have
come so far from the true
definition of community that
the United Nations has
formulated a formal definition
of community development as “a
process where community members
come together to take collective
action and generate solutions to
common problems.” and Community
Builders as “a broad term given to
civic leaders, activists, involved
citizens and professionals that take
action to improve various aspects of
the community , in an effort to build
stronger bonds, character and
citizenship which in turn builds a
stronger and more resilient
sustainable local community.” When I
was growing up that was called
family,a neighbor, a friend, and we
didn't require a government definition
to remind us to be kind and care
about one another. Its just my
opinion and I'm sure it doesn't mean
much to most, but if we want to live
in world full of caring, considerate,
loving people, with respect for each
other, we have to start teaching
each other how to be those things
again, one COMMUNITY at a time.
