We want to change the dynamics and empower children to ask for more support, not just from their family but also from their community. Held on March 19th every year, International Read To Me Day provides a wonderful opportunity to have a conversation revolving around reading. By including community members, family members, and youth, we have an opportunity to become enlightened as to the possible barriers youth and community members may have in developing improved reading habits; perhaps a lack of resources, time, inadequate educational support or geographic isolation play a factor. International Read To Me Day not only provides a platform to discuss risk factors and solutions in the battle to improve literacy it also offers an excellent opportunity to spend quality time with others experiencing an adventure only a good book can provide.
