KATY AREA RETIRED EDUCATORS(KARE) ANNUAL AUCTION<br />
On February 8, <strong>2017</strong>, the Katy Area Retired Educators(KARE) hosted their<br />
annual Scholarship Chocolate Auction with guest speaker Helen Blocker<br />
Payne, “The Butterfly Lady.”<br />
Following an informative presentation about Butterflies, from Helen<br />
Blocker Payne, “The Butterfly Lady,” The Katy Area Retired Educators<br />
(KARE) members closed out their February meeting with a Chocolate<br />
Auction to support their Scholarship Program, raising $673. Before the<br />
meeting begins, individuals bring chocolate desserts and gift baskets,<br />
then fill out a silent auction sheet naming the item with a suggested<br />
price. As members arrive, they shop the tables of goodies and bid on<br />
items they want. All proceeds benefit the Scholarship Fund, which subsists<br />
on monthly drawings for gift baskets, a collection of loose change<br />
and cash donations. If sufficient funds are collected, we hope to provide<br />
three $1,000 scholarships to students graduating this Spring who intend<br />
to pursue a career in education. Scholarship Applications are currently<br />
available at each high school in Katy ISD. For more information about<br />
