The Shomre Hadas <strong>Seder</strong> <strong>Handbook</strong><br />

Tzafun Unlocked: The afikoman is the larger half of the middle<br />

matzah that was hidden at the beginning of the <strong>Seder</strong>. The taste of<br />

matzah is to remain with us even after the <strong>Seder</strong>’s conclusion. This<br />

suggests that <strong>Seder</strong> Night should make a continual impression on us,<br />

which should last throughout the year.<br />

13. Barech – We recite the Bircat HaMazon, Grace after Meals.<br />

Bareach Unlocked: A central part of the night is to realize that<br />

everything we have is by the grace of God; this includes the food that<br />

we eat, for which we give our thanks and appreciation. Bircat<br />

HaMazon is followed by drinking the third of the Four Cups of wine.<br />

14. Hallel – We sing the Hallel, giving our thanks and praise to God<br />

for all the goodness He has performed for us.<br />

Hallel Unlocked: As free individuals, it is incumbent on us to<br />

appreciate the Divine cause of our freedom and to thank God for it.<br />

Hallel is followed by the fourth and final cup of wine.<br />

15. Nirtzah – The conclusion.<br />

Nirtza Unlocked: Having been rejuvenated on <strong>Seder</strong> Night, the<br />

anniversary of our redemption, we commence a new cycle of both<br />

personal and national growth and achievement.<br />

Part C. The <strong>Seder</strong> Plate<br />

The <strong>Seder</strong> comes alive through the combination of the intellectual,<br />

emotional, and physical experiences of the <strong>Seder</strong>. The <strong>Seder</strong> plate<br />

contains the visual symbols of the Pesach <strong>Seder</strong>.<br />

1. K’arah – The <strong>Seder</strong> plate.<br />

The <strong>Seder</strong> plate contains the symbols of the <strong>Seder</strong>.<br />

2. Zero’ah – Roasted bone.<br />

During the times of the Temple in Jerusalem, the Korban Pesach<br />

(Pascal Lamb) was brought to the Temple on the eve of Passover. It<br />
