Healthmail is a managed service provided by Three, paid for by the HSE and governed by eHealth Ireland. The HSE and eHealth Ireland have no visibility of the email content of Healthmail accounts. Data protection Healthmail fully respects the right to privacy and will not collect any user account information without clear permission. Any user registration information that is provided to the Healthmail service will be treated with high standards of security and confidentiality, strictly in accordance with the Data Protection Acts, 1988 & 2003, and subsequent legislation and regulations. Health Information and Patient Safety Bill The upcoming Health Information and Patient Safety Bill is intended to provide for the setting of standards on the efficient electronic exchange of health information and the setting of best practice standards on the processing of health information. One objective of the Health Information and Patient Safety Bill is to give legal exceptions to the Data Protection Act in its provision for the processing of personal data and personal health data. The processing of data and health data is needed to provide safe services for the treatment of the patient, processing audit, service evaluation, research, epidemiology and public health – all contributing to patient safety. In the interest of patient safety, pharmacy will use Healthmail to communicate patient information and treatment with GPs, primary care teams, community intervention teams, consultants and pharmacists in secondary care, ensuring the right information is going to the right recipient in a secure and timely process. When registering for a Healthmail account, detailed personal and professional information is requested. In the first phase of implementation, only a Supervising Pharmacist working in a pharmacy can register for a Healthmail account and a Healthmail account will be created for that pharmacy. However, other pharmacists can access the pharmacy Healthmail if approved by the Supervising Pharmacist. The information provided will be authenticated by the IPU and/or eHealth Ireland. The requested information is: Personal information – Title – First name – Middle initial – Surname – Mobile number – PSI number Pharmacy information – Pharmacy Name – Address 1 – Address 2 – City/Town – County – Postal Code – Phone number – Email address – PSI number Healthmail address A combination of the Pharmacy Name and Address will be used to generate the Healthmail address, e.g. reillyspharmacyrathfarnham @healthmail.ie.
